Jesus our Redeemer and Restorer

“And through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.” — Colossians 1:20

When God Restores

Have you ever had to restore a smartphone or another device back to its factory settings?

Perhaps something went wrong. A glitch appeared. Things weren’t functioning as they should. So you pressed those few words: Restore to factory settings.

Suddenly, the device was taken back to its intended condition.

In a sense, humanity experienced a devastating “glitch” in Genesis. Sin entered the world, and everything was affected. We were separated from God, our identity became distorted, and the authority and purpose God had given humanity were corrupted by sin.

But God didn’t abandon His creation.

Jesus came as our Redeemer and Restorer.

Back to His Original Intent

The gospel is about far more than simply escaping hell and getting to heaven. Yes, Jesus saves us from sin and reconciles us to God—but His salvation also begins a glorious work of restoration in our lives.

Paul writes that through Christ, God was reconciling all things to Himself, making peace through the blood of His cross (Colossians 1:20).

Then he says that although we were once alienated from God, Christ has reconciled us through His death so that we might be presented holy, without blemish and free from accusation before Him (Colossians 1:21–22).

Think about that.

Jesus didn’t come merely to improve you. He came to make you new.

Your past does not have the authority to define your future. Your failures don’t get the final word. Your old identity doesn’t have to be the identity you carry.

A New Creation

Paul declares,

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

This is the miracle of salvation. God doesn’t simply put a Christian “sticker” over your old life. He gives you a new identity in Christ.

You have been reconciled.
You have been redeemed.
You have been forgiven.
You have been adopted.
You have been made new.

Scripture says,

“We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand” (Ephesians 2:10).

There is an original intention behind your life. Sin tried to distort it, circumstances may have wounded it, and people may have spoken words over you that were never God’s words—but Jesus is restoring what was broken and calling you into His purposes.

See Yourself Differently

Sometimes the greatest battle after salvation is learning to see yourself the way God now sees you. The enemy wants you constantly looking backwards, rehearsing your failures and remembering who you used to be. But the gospel says, look at what Christ has done!

Jesus humbled Himself, came down to us and gave His life so that we could be lifted into relationship with God. He stooped down to redeem us, restore our dignity and bring us back into the purpose for which we were created.

So stop introducing yourself by your past.

Don’t say, “I’m just a failure.”
Don’t say, “That’s simply who I am.”
If you are in Christ, the old has passed away and the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17).

You are not who you used to be. You belong to Jesus. You are being restored, and the God who began this good work in you “will bring it to completion” (Philippians 1:6).

The Restorer is still working.

I am a new creation in Christ; the old has passed away and the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17). I have been reconciled to God through Jesus Christ and I am no longer separated from Him (Colossians 1:21–22). I am God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works and divine purpose (Ephesians 2:10). I have been redeemed and forgiven according to the riches of God’s grace (Ephesians 1:7). I am God’s child, deeply loved and chosen in Christ (Ephesians 1:4–5). God is completing the good work He began in me, and He will faithfully finish what He started (Philippians 1:6).
