From Prison To Palace: God’s Call To Influence Nations

“So Pharaoh said to Joseph, ‘I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt.’ Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his finger and put it on Joseph’s finger. He dressed him in robes of fine linen and put a gold chain round his neck. He made him ride in a chariot as his second-in-command, and people shouted before him, ‘Make way!’ Thus he put him in charge of the whole land of Egypt.”

Genesis 41:41-43 NIVUK

Joseph’s life is one of the most remarkable transformation stories in Scripture. In one day, he went from the dungeon to the palace. Years of rejection, betrayal, slavery, and false accusation seemed to have kept him hidden and overlooked—but all along, God was preparing him. When the time was right, Joseph was promoted in a moment. The prison could not hold him once God opened the door.

This is how God works. When He chooses, He can raise a person from obscurity to influence overnight. But here’s the key: Joseph wasn’t promoted by chance. He had been developing his gift of wisdom and excellence in the secret, lowly places. He served faithfully in Potiphar’s house, and later in prison, until his character and calling were ready for Pharaoh’s palace.

The same is true for the Church today. God’s plan is not simply to rescue individuals from the world but to disciple nations (Matthew 28:19). His kingdom is designed to influence every sphere of life—medicine, education, government, arts and media, family, business, and more. Joseph’s rise to power is a prophetic picture of the Church’s call: to be God’s mobile temple across the earth, carrying His presence into every tribe and culture.

The Bible promises that “the glory of the Lord will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14). Revelation 21 gives us the ultimate vision: heaven coming down to earth, the city of God dwelling among people. This is what Jesus taught us to pray: “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

That kingdom comes through believers who, like Joseph, are willing to prepare in hidden places until God says, “Now is your time.” It comes through Christians who lead lovingly, responsibly, prophetically, and with integrity. It comes through a Church that refuses to retreat but instead rises with courage to transform society one sphere at a time.

So be a Joseph. Don’t despise your prison seasons; use them to grow in excellence, faith, and character. When God opens the door, step into your palace assignment with humility and boldness. Together, the Church can disciple nations until heaven truly touches earth.

I will not despise the prison seasons of my life. Just as You were with Joseph in every valley, O Lord, You are with me now. “The LORD was with Joseph… and gave him success in whatever he did” (Genesis 39:21,23). I believe that this season is not a setback, but a sacred classroom where You refine my character, deepen my faith, and prepare my future. What feels like confinement is actually cultivation. What looks like delay is divine development.

Like Joseph, I will serve faithfully, steward well, and rise in favour even in hidden places. I trust that You are shaping me for the palace while I remain faithful in the prison. I refuse bitterness, discouragement, and despair. Instead, I choose hope, endurance, and expectation. For the same God who brought Joseph out in due time is the same God who will lift me up.
