Weapons Of Light

Weapons Of Light

โ€œYou are the light of the world.ย A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.ย ย Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.ย ย In the same way, let your light shine before others,ย that they may see your good deedsย and glorifyย your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

God has called us to be weapons of light.

In a world where darkness reigns, we need to be sure that we are not only living in the light but we are shining brighter than we have ever shined.

Romans 13:12-14 says, โ€œNightโ€™s darkness is dissolving away as a new day of destiny dawns. So we must once and for all strip away what is done in the shadows of darkness, removing it like filthy clothes. And once and for all we clothe ourselves with the radiance of light as our weapon. We must live honorably, surrounded by the light of this new day, not in the darkness of drunkenness and debauchery, not in promiscuity and sensuality, not being argumentative or jealous of others. Instead fully immerse yourselves into the Lord Jesus, the Anointed One, and donโ€™t waste even a momentโ€™s thought on your former identity to awaken its selfish desires.โ€ (TPT)

When we are fully immersed in Jesus, we are already a weapon of light. However, that light will grow dim when we choose to feed our sinful nature.

Now you may not struggle with the list here in Romans…drunkenness, debauchery, promiscuity, BUT what about the latter two, โ€œbeing argumentative…being jealous of others.โ€

Paul often slips in these โ€œsecretโ€ sins of jealousy, envy, gossip and being argumentative alongside murder and pornography, and itโ€™s not to be ignored.

To be weapons of light we need to do the exact opposite of this list. We need to live honourably, celebrate others, speak with love and live in unity. Cloth ourselves in Christ and be a weapon of light.

Today, I rise and shineโ€”for I am the light of the world, set apart by God to reflect His glory. I will not shrink back or hide what He has placed in me.

I clothe myself with Christ and I throw off the works of darknessโ€”compromise, distraction, and anything that draws me away from God. I refuse to make room for the desires of the flesh. I choose holiness over compromise, boldness over fear, and surrender over self.

The passion translation expands powerfully on this concept, in all of Romans 6, particularly referring again to the former identity in Romans 6:6. And powerfully explained in the footnotes too! The wonderful news of the gospel has layer upon layer to be discovered and empower us as Christians.

These daily messages are regularly spot on in terms of my walk with God. He uses them to encourage me and to pinpoint where I need to line up my thinking with His Word. Thank you, Lord, and thank you Pastor Jarrod and Vicky.
