Washed In The Word
A few years ago we moved house and although we didnโt move too far away, we found a real difference in the hardness of the water in the village where we now live.
Taps started breaking within 2 years of moving and we noticed our hair and skin was overly dry. Having recognised the source of the problem we decided to invest in a water purifier.
Immediately, I noticed my hair was no longer dry and frizzy, and skin was no longer flaking or itchy. I had tried different hair and skin products to fix the problem but the source of the issue was in the water. The very thing that I was washing in.
When our lives start to break down in areas, I wonder if we sometimes try to deal with the symptoms and not the source of the problem?
The Bible tells us that we are cleansed by the Word of God. It washes us. Itโs pure, itโs powerful, it heals and corrects. It aligns us, it lights our path, it comforts and directs us.
โYou are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.โ John 15:3
โTo make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of Godโs word.โ Ephesians 5:26
What are you allowing to wash over you?
Gossip? Problems? Worry? Are you perhaps impacted by tv programmes or celebrities? Youโd be surprised how much influence they can have on our lives when we are consumed by storylines, bad language, and obsessed by their lifestyles and looks.
I used to be an avid fan of the Australian soap, โNeighboursโ growing up back in the late 80s and early 90s. If I missed an episode I was devastated. Of course there was no โwatch on demandโ and we didnโt own a video recorder until much later. I remember, the soap not only impacted the way I looked (a really bad perm โ truly!), but I even picked up an Aussie accent!
I know this is minor but I want to demonstrate that when we are immersed in something, when it washes over us, it impacts us in ways we donโt realise. I remember someone once telling me she had to stop watching the chef, Gordon Ramsey on TV because she found his swearing would stick in her head.
Now, Iโm not saying not to watch TV, read magazines or follow celebrities on social media, but we need to be careful and watchful to recognise what we allow to wash over us. More importantly, we must make sure that Godโs Word is regularly washing us! Itโs the solution to every break down within life.
โEvery part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or anotherโshowing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live Godโs way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.โ 2 Tim 3:16-17 (MSG)
I often head out for a walk listening to the Bible in my headphones. The โYou Versionโ app is such a blessing to the body of Christ. Itโs free and packed full of different versions of the Bible which you can not only read but listen to. I have found it has impacted me greatly.
I understand that some donโt enjoy reading or perhaps find it difficult to read due to dyslexia, but there are so many different ways to let Godโs Word wash you. Thereโs no excuse.
So just like the filter on my shower, purifying the water I wash in, choose to immerse yourself in the purifying, cleansing Word of God.
โThe law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.โ
Psalm 19:7-8 (NKJV)
An extract taken from A Fusion Of Humanity & Divinity

I am washed, cleansed, and renewed by the power of Your Word. Your Word is alive and active (Hebrews 4:12), piercing through my heart, shaping my mind, and transforming my soul. Every lie is uprooted, every impurity is removed, and every burden is lifted as I meditate on Your truth day and night (Joshua 1:8).
I align my thoughts, actions and desires with Your will because Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105). I renounce the defilement of the world and embrace the purity that comes from dwelling in Your presence. I receive Your cleansing today. I reject condemnation and embrace the righteousness You have given me through Christ.

Thanks for this!
I can relate to the Neighbours programme.รย รย
It actually was good wholesome family viewing back in the day, wasn\’t it?รย But I didn\’t go as far as the frizzy perm!
The Gordon Ramsay comment I do get.รย รย
Last night I was telling a friend that I once worked for Virgin Media and the trainer lady came down from Glasgow each week to train us.รย รย
She obvs stayed in a hotel and she sprinkled the F word in every sentence.รย As in:
Tonight when I get home my Effing husband will put my effing washing in the washing machine, then he will effing cook my dinner.
Now, we really needed the money but I said to Andrew, I really can\’t face another week of hearing her.
When I told her I was leaving because the training was too hard, her reply?
Oh stay and I will spend more time with you!รย Ha! Ha!
And I know you want me to tell you she got saved, but……… (Not as far as I know!)
See you on the 26th!
