Trusting God With The Blanks

Trusting God With The Blanks

โ€œThe Lord had said to Abram, โ€˜Go from your country, your people and your fatherโ€™s household to the land I will show you.โ€™โ€

Genesis 12:1 NIVUK

When God called Abram, He didnโ€™t hand him a map or show him the final destination. Instead, He gave a simple command:ย โ€œGo.โ€ย The details would come later. Abram had to leave behind the familiar, the safe, and the predictable, stepping out on nothing but Godโ€™s word. Thatโ€™s the essence of faithโ€”trusting God in the blanks.

We often want the whole plan laid out before we move. We long for clarity, guarantees, and full provision upfront. But God rarely works that way. He invites us to take the first step of obedience, trusting that as we go, He will lead. Faith is not about seeing the whole staircaseโ€”itโ€™s about taking the next step.

Jesus extended the same kind of invitation to His disciples:ย โ€œFollow Me.โ€ย They werenโ€™t given a ministry plan, a five-year vision, or a detailed job description. Instead, they had to drop their nets and follow Him, trusting that the unknown with Jesus was far better than the known without Him.

What about you? Is there an area where God is calling you to โ€œgoโ€โ€”to start, to obey, to moveโ€”yet youโ€™ve been holding back? Maybe fear of provision, lack of clarity, or the paralysis of overthinking has kept you from stepping out.

Seek wisdom from seasoned believers who have walked this road of faith. Surround yourself with those living the adventure of Kingdom mission. But most importantly, trust God with the blanks. Begin to โ€œgo,โ€ even if the details arenโ€™t clear. The God who calls is the God who leads, provides, and fulfills His promises.

Prayer: Lord, give me courage to step into the unknown, trusting Your word above my fears. I choose to obey today, even without all the details. Amen.

My trust is in the Lord alone. I will not lean on my own understanding, but in all my ways I will acknowledge Him, and He will make my paths straight (Proverbs 3:5โ€“6). When I cannot see the way forward, I will rest in the truth that God is faithful. His promises are sure, His timing is perfect, and His plans for me are good (Jeremiah 29:11).

I choose to let go of fear, anxiety, and control. My confidence is not in what I can do, but in who He isโ€”my Rock, my Refuge, and my Redeemer (Psalm 18:2). Even in uncertainty, I will stand firm and declare: โ€œI trust You, Lord.โ€ You are working all things together for my good and for Your glory (Romans 8:28).
