It Will Unfold

It Will Unfold

โ€œThen Abram journeyed from there by stages through the southern desert region.โ€

Genesis 12:9 TPT

Life doesnโ€™t happen all at onceโ€”it unfolds inย stages. Abramโ€™s journey was not a single leap from promise to fulfillment; it was a series of steps, each one leading him closer to Godโ€™s plan. In the same way, your life has seasons, and knowing which stage youโ€™re in can give you peace, wisdom, and expectation for what God is doing.

1. The Stage of Safety

Every journey begins with a place of safety. Just as a newborn rests securely in the arms of its parents, we begin our spiritual lives needing nurture, protection, and simple truths to anchor us. In this stage, God doesnโ€™t overload us with responsibility; He simply surrounds us with His love and care. If you are in this stage spiritually, donโ€™t despise it. Growth often starts small, hidden, and dependent. Be content to learn the basics of faith, worship, and prayer.

2. The Stage of Discovery

Just as teenagers begin to push boundaries and explore identity, there comes a season when our hearts long to discover who God is beyond the safety net. We ask questions, wrestle with doubts, and sometimes test limits. Discovery is good, but dangerous if unchecked. Without wisdom, curiosity can lead to destructive experimentation. But with boundaries, this stage becomes powerful. It deepens conviction, shapes identity, and prepares us for maturity. Spiritually, discovery is where you begin to own your faithโ€”not just borrow it.

3. The Stage of Responsibility

After discovery comes the longest and often most challenging stage: responsibility. Life shifts from ideals to realitiesโ€”jobs to maintain, homes to manage, families to raise, ministries to serve. Like an iceberg, only a small part of responsibility feels glamorous; most of it is hidden labor, unseen sacrifices, and daily faithfulness. Yet, this is where character is forged. The key is to keep your joy aliveโ€”donโ€™t let responsibility rob you of wonder. Look for God in the ordinary, and remember that worship is as much about washing dishes with gratitude as it is singing songs on a Sunday.

Other Stages Along the Way

There are seasons of training when God stretches your capacity.
Times of pruning when He cuts back to prepare you for fruitfulness.
Moments of resting when He calls you to simply abide in Him.
Even seasons of leaving and building, when He calls you out of the old and into the new.

Like Abram, you wonโ€™t reach your destination in one stride. You will journeyย by stages. The wisdom is to discern your season and walk with God in it. Donโ€™t compare your stage to someone elseโ€™s. Donโ€™t rush ahead of Godโ€™s timing or linger behind His leading.

Today, ask yourself:ย What stage am I in?ย Am I in a season of safety, discovery, responsibility, or perhaps pruning or resting? Whatever the answer, Godโ€™s presence is with you inย thisย stage. Walk with Him, and He will give you the wisdom and grace you need for the next.

Prayer: Lord, thank You that my life is a journey with You. Teach me to embrace the stage Iโ€™m in with patience and wisdom. Guard me from comparison, keep my heart tender, and help me find You in every season. Amen.

Today, I walk with steady steps, trusting that the One who began a good work in me will carry it to completion (Philippians 1:6). I declare that I will walk in wisdom and patience as God leads me on this journey. I trust that His timing is perfect, and His ways are higher than mine (Isaiah 55:8โ€“9).

I will not rush ahead or grow weary in the waiting, for I know that patience produces character, and character strengthens my faith (Romans 5:3โ€“4). I choose to rest in the truth that every delay is divine preparation. God is working behind the scenes, aligning every detail for His glory and my good.

Thank you this really is a word for me today – we’ve recently moved to a new area and new church. I found I had lost my joy and become ‘weary with responsibility ‘ at our former church. This new church is vibrant and full of joy which excites me but I mustn’t compare myself to others or feel despondent becsuse my current experienceis not theirs – I will wait on the Lord.
