Trust His Timing

“Though it delays, wait [patiently] for it, because it will certainly come; it will not delay.” — Habakkuk 2:3

When the Promise Takes Time

The children of Israel knew something about waiting.

They spent generations in slavery in Egypt, and after God miraculously delivered them, their journey into the Promised Land took far longer than they imagined. What should have been a relatively short journey became forty years in the wilderness.

Perhaps you’ve wondered the same thing: “God, if You promised it, why is it taking so long?”

We often interpret delay as denial. But God’s timing is not our timing.

Peter reminds us, “With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day” (2 Peter 3:8). God sees the beginning from the end. He is never rushing, panicking or reacting to circumstances. He is working according to an eternal perspective that we cannot always see.

The Promise Needs a Process

David was anointed king while he was still young, but the crown didn’t immediately follow the anointing. Between the promise and its fulfilment came caves, conflict, rejection and years of running for his life.

God wasn’t wasting those years. He was preparing David for what David wasn’t yet ready to carry.

Ecclesiastes tells us,

“There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

Sometimes we’re waiting for God, but sometimes God is waiting for us.

There are seasons when He is developing our character, deepening our faith, healing our hearts and teaching us dependence upon Him. Like a potter shaping clay, God is forming something in us that cannot be produced overnight.

The process may feel slow, but formation takes time.

Speak the Promise

Yet waiting doesn’t mean sitting passively and doing nothing.

There are moments when God calls us to take hold of His promises, pray them, declare them and step out in obedience.

Paul declares,

“For every one of God’s promises are ‘Yes’ in Him; therefore also through Him the ‘Amen’ is spoken, to the glory we give to God” (2 Corinthians 1:20).

Our confession doesn’t manipulate God into fulfilling His Word. Rather, faith agrees with what God has already spoken.

So keep praying.
Keep believing.
Keep declaring His Word.
Keep obeying the Holy Spirit.
And keep walking.

Habakkuk gives us the encouragement we need:

“For the vision is yet for the appointed time… Though it delays, wait patiently for it, because it will certainly come” (Habakkuk 2:3).

Maybe the promise feels delayed today.
Delay does not mean forgotten.
God is working in you, around you and ahead of you.

Trust Him. Trust the process. Trust His timing.

He is never late.

Believe & Confess Meditation & Declaration

I trust God’s perfect timing even when I cannot see the whole picture (Ecclesiastes 3:1). I will wait patiently for God’s promises because His Word will accomplish what He has spoken (Habakkuk 2:3; Isaiah 55:11). I believe that every promise of God is “Yes” in Christ, and I respond with my faith-filled “Amen” (2 Corinthians 1:20). God is using every season to mature, strengthen and prepare me for His purposes (James 1:2-4). I trust that God is working all things together for my good because I love Him and am called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). I will not grow weary or lose heart, because at the appointed time I will reap if I remain faithful (Galatians 6:9).
