Three Postures For A Healthy Heart

Three Postures For A Healthy Heart

There are 3 ways to remain flexible enough for God’s new days:

1. Be Well-Traveled

Travel is not only about airplanes and passports. It is about cultivating a heart and mind full of curiosity and wonder. Christians who step beyond their narrow streamsโ€”whether denominational, cultural, or historicalโ€”gain perspective. They can discern more easily what is eternal and what is merely cultural. Proverbs tells us that wisdom cries out in the streets. She is found when we are willing to listen, read widely, and expose ourselves to voices outside our comfort zones. A well-traveled soul sees more clearly what God is doing and avoids mistaking human traditions for divine truth.

2. Be Big-Hearted

โ€œAbove all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from itโ€ (Proverbs 4:23). Ministry and life often bruise the heart. Cynicism, envy, and sarcasm can creep in unnoticed. A small-hearted leader becomes suspicious and harsh toward others, even toward fellow servants of Christ. But God calls us to cultivate largeness of heart. A big-hearted leader celebrates othersโ€™ success, shows kindness in hidden conversations, and extends grace where bitterness could take root. When we keep our hearts tender, we position ourselves to perceive the fresh movements of God with clarity and joy.

3. Stay Organisationally Mobile

Churches and teams thrive when they behave like movements, not clubs. The danger of comfort is calcificationโ€”our sinful tendency to โ€œsettle.โ€ But God often leads His people through change. Practicing flexibility prepares us for divine interruptions. Introduce new rhythms, try fresh approaches, and embrace change as part of the culture. By resisting brittleness and nurturing plasticity, we make space for the Spiritโ€™s leading. The healthiest churches move with God rather than clutching at old forms.

Change Your Posture

A healthy heart requires curiosity, largeness of heart, and readiness for change. These three postures open us to Godโ€™s ongoing work in His Church and in the world.

I will guard my heart with wisdom and truth. I will not allow bitterness, fear, or compromise to take root. I will protect my inner life with the truth of God’s Word, the leading of His Spirit, and the peace of Christ.

My heart is a wellspring of lifeโ€”so I will keep it pure. I will stay alert and I wil stay surrendered. I choose thoughts that build, words that heal, and actions that reflect Jesus.

Everything I do flows from the condition of my heartโ€”so I place it fully in God’s hands. He cleanses, He renews, and He strengthens me from within. I will walk with clarity, purpose, and peaceโ€”because my heart is anchored in Him.
