Their Cause Is Not Your Calling
โThere was a man sent from God, whose name was John.โ โ John 1:6 (NIV)
One small verse. One massive truth. John was sent. Not by accident, not by coincidenceโby God. With a purpose, a calling, a divine assignment.
And so are you.
God sends each of us into the world with intentionality. But in a world brimming with causes, cries, needs, and noise, itโs easy to lose that focus. If weโre not careful, weโll trade the precision of our calling for the pressure of every cause.
Yes, the world is hurting. Yes, there are injustices. Yes, your heart might break for a thousand things. But hear this clearly: not every burden can become your assignment.
Even Jesusโcompassion incarnateโwalked past some needs to pursue His purpose. He healed many, but not all. He moved with focus, not frenzy. He came to do only what the Father told Him.
Thereโs wisdom in that. We must discern the difference between good works and God works.
When we say yes to everything, we dilute our effectiveness. We become scattered, exhausted, and often frustrated. But when we focus on what God actually sent us to do, clarity comes. Power flows. Fruit grows.
So ask yourself: What has God sent me to do? Not just what stirs emotionโbut what carries eternal weight in my life?
The noise of the world is relentless. Causes will crowd your feed, your mind, your heart. But you are not sent for everything. You are sent for something.
So stay sharp. Stay focused. Donโt let a dozen distractions pull you from the one thing you were created to do.
Your calling is your compass. Follow it.
Lord, help me lay down every cause You havenโt assigned, so I can pick up the calling Youโve designed.

I am called, I am chosen, and I am commissioned by God. I walk in the confidence that my steps are ordered, and my destiny is secure in Christ. Every gift, every lesson, every trial is shaping me for His assignment. I will not compare, delay, or disqualify myselfโI am equipped for what He has called me to.
Even when the way feels unclear, I trust the One who holds the map.
I will not be distracted by the world around me, but I will follow and I will obey His voice and call upon my life.

Really good word. There are challenges in the waiting, to wait for God’s perfect plan A, to not produce an Ishmael. Illustrated really well in The Chosen, where Jesus instructed by the Father didn’t raise someone from the dead in public as it would have created a Lazarus situation prematurely.
