The Power of A Righteous Presence

The Power of A Righteous Presence

โ€œSo Abraham came forward to present his case before Yahweh, and said, โ€˜Are you really going to sweep away the righteous while you judge the wicked?โ€™ โ€ฆ And Yahweh said, โ€˜Alright. If I find fifty righteous in Sodom, I will spare the whole city for their sake.โ€™โ€

โ€ญโ€ญGenesisโ€ฌ โ€ญ18โ€ฌ:โ€ญ23, 26โ€ฌ โ€ญTPTโ€ฌโ€ฌ

Abrahamโ€™s bold intercession reveals a remarkable truth: the very presence of the righteous alters the atmosphere and destiny of a city. God was willing to withhold judgment on Sodomโ€”not because the city itself was good, but because even a small group of righteous people could change how He looked at it.

This aligns perfectly with Jesusโ€™ words: โ€œYou are the salt of the earth โ€ฆ You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hiddenโ€ (Matthew 5:13โ€“14). Salt preserves. Light illuminates. Just being present, believers carry the fragrance of Christ into their communities. Our lives become conduits of blessing, shifting how God interacts with the places we inhabit.

Much of this is a mystery, beyond our pay grade. But Scripture shows us that when Godโ€™s people dwell in a city, His mercy flows more freely. Our prayers protect neighbours who donโ€™t even realise it. Our good deeds, done quietly, point people to the Father. Our faithfulness in marriage, kindness in conversation, and humility in leadership all become plumb lines of godliness in a fragile, fractured world.

Jesusโ€™ kingdom parables remind us that, for now, the righteous and unrighteous grow side by side. The wheat and weeds share the same field; the kingdom tree shelters both the good and the bad. Final judgment will come later. In this age, our presence mattersโ€”not just for us, but for everyone around us.

So never underestimate the difference you make. Your street is blessed because you live there. Your workplace is steadied by your integrity. Your gym, classroom, office, or cafรฉ is infused with kingdom light simply because you showed up carrying Christ within.

Today, walk with this awareness: your presence is not ordinary. Heaven sees differently when you enter a room. Expect Godโ€™s blessing to ripple out from your life. Pray for it. Look for it. Believe it.

Because sometimes, as Abraham discovered, the presence of the righteous is enough to save a whole city.

I am the salt of the earth and the light of the world (Matthew 5:13โ€“14). God has placed His Spirit within me therefore my life carries Kingdom influence. I refuse to lose my saltiness or hide my light. I will not shrink back or blend in, for I have been called to stand out and stand firm.

Today, I choose to shine brightly, to speak truth with love, and to live in such a way that others see the goodness of God through me.

STRONGER: includes a 40 day devotional

This book is all about where we find strength. Jarrod writes that โ€œGod provides us with strength builders along our pathโ€ โ€“ some we need to pick up and use, others will simply happen to us along the way, by a kind of divine providence. But knowing these seasons of muscle building are from heaven (โ€˜cos they usually look like theyโ€™re from hell at first!) is vital to recognising Godโ€™s plan for your resilience.

Now STRONGER comes with an additional 40 day devotional taking you on a journey building attitudes and beliefs that will release divine wisdom and strength in your life. Each day presents you with a scripture, an inspirational short piece to get you thinking, followed by a prayer, action point or declaration.
