The Cool Of The Day

The Cool Of The Day

โ€œThen Adam and his wife heard the sound of Yahweh-God passing through the garden in the breeze of the day. So, they hid among the trees, concealing themselves from the face of Yahweh-God.โ€ โ€“ย Genesis 3:8 TPT

Some translations say God walked โ€œin the cool of the day.โ€ This phrase suggests the gentle times of early morning and late eveningโ€”the still moments when the air is fresh and quiet. Itโ€™s significant that God sought fellowship with Adam and Eve during those times. The dayโ€™s noise had not yet begun, or was just settling down. The coolness of morning and evening invites us to pause, listen, and be present.

God still walks in the โ€œcoolโ€ of our lives. In the morning, when you wake with a clear mind, He longs to shape your thoughts before the world does. What you give your attention to first sets the tone for everything else. A whispered prayer, a scripture read slowly, or even a quiet walk can align your heart with His.

At dayโ€™s end, when the sun lowers and the weight of hours settles, He comes again. This is the time to release, unburden, and lay down what youโ€™ve carriedโ€”worries, successes, failures alike. He invites you to unload it all, so that you rest in His peace.

One morning I woke unusually early and sensed Godโ€™s quiet call:ย โ€œCome out for a walk.โ€ย It was simple, but unforgettable. I met Him powerfully in that stillness, and it marked me with joy and focus for some time. I have returned to those walks many a time – but also to quiet coffees, still night-time vigils, slow meditations, relaxed scriptural book reading and country rambles, and I have found God there again and again.ย

The same God is looking for you in the โ€œcool of the day.โ€ Give Him your first and last thoughts. In those quiet, unhurried moments, youโ€™ll find strength, intimacy, clarity, and faith that carry you through.

I choose to abide in Him and His words in me (John 15:7). Above all else I treasure the presence of God. Like David, I say, โ€œOne thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His templeโ€ (Psalm 27:4).

As I draw near to God, He will draw near to me (James 4:8). In the stillness, I will hear His voice, for Jesus said, โ€œMy sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow meโ€ (John 10:27). In His presence I find fullness of joy, and at His right hand are pleasures forevermore (Psalm 16:11).
