Stealing Your Fire

Stealing Your Fire

An extract for The Divine Reset & Beyond: Order Your Copy HERE.

โ€œItโ€™s all too easy to steal fire from much of the Church.โ€ The enemy often does not confront us directlyโ€”he simply keeps us busy. Exhausted. Distracted. We become consumed with activity, leaving little room for the fresh voice of God. Like Saulโ€™s Israel, we may appear armed and trained, but we stand paralysed before Goliath, lacking the fiery intimacy that makes us effective.

But a new kind of leader is emergingโ€”those who say โ€œnoโ€ to endless lists, systems, and expectations, and instead choose to walk as beloved sons and daughters. They refuse to be defined by religious demands or consumer-driven models of ministry. They are rediscovering their First Love. Revelation 2:4โ€“5 calls us back: โ€œYou have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first.โ€

God is stripping away clutter, comparisons, and competition. He is calling us back to simplicityโ€”prayer, presence, love. Maybe some of us have been so intent on building ministries that weโ€™ve forgotten to simply love Jesus. Maybe some churches need to return to the Acts 2 rhythm: prayer, fellowship, breaking bread, and power. Fire comes not from stagecraft or strategy but from hearts ablaze in His presence.

First-Love Fires require space. Stillness. Solitude. They require shutting out the noise of fear, pride, and nostalgia so we can hear the whisper of God again. Sometimes we need new companionsโ€”pioneers, prophets, explorersโ€”who stir our hunger for realities beyond the familiar. Most of all, we need to rise again into His arms, letting Love untangle our fears, heal our weariness, and breathe fresh beginnings into our souls.

Reflection: True fire is not found in busyness but in intimacy.
Recommendation:ย Create intentional space this week for silence, worship, and stillness before God.
Next step:ย Ask Him to reignite your First-Love Fire and show you what needs to be stripped away.

Today, I ask the Holy Spirit to breathe upon the embers of my heart. I declare that I am alive again with passion for His presence, consumed by His love, and committed to walking closely with Him all my days.

I return to the simplicity of loving Himโ€”above ministry, above duty, above all else. โ€œWe love because He first loved usโ€ (1 John 4:19). I declare that the flame of devotion within me will not go out. Like Jeremiah, โ€œHis word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bonesโ€ (Jeremiah 20:9).
