Manifesting Miracles
โJesus gave them this answer: โVery truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.โโ
John 5:19 (NIVUK)
The Quiet Secret Behind Power
These words of Jesus gently pull back the curtain on the inner life of the Son of God. They reveal something deeply personal, deeply relational, and quietly powerful. Jesus tells us that He did not act independently. He did not rush ahead. He did not perform from position or title. He watched the Fatherโฆ and then He moved.
Although Jesus was fully God and fully man, He chose to live in humble submission to the Father. For thirty years, Scripture records no miracles, no crowds, no public authority. Then, at the Jordan, the Spirit of God descended upon Him, and a new chapter began. Soon after, Jesus stood and declared, โThe Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, because He has anointed meโ (Isaiah 61:1; Luke 4:18, NIVUK). From that moment, the power of heaven flowed through an obedient, Spirit-filled human life.
Why Jesus Chose This Way
Jesus ministered this way on purpose. He did not rely on His divine status for miracles; He relied on the anointing of the Spirit. And in doing so, He showed us what is possible for surrendered, listening, human beings like us.
If Jesus had only healed, delivered, and performed miracles because He was God, we could excuse ourselves forever. But instead, He said, โWhoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than theseโ (John 14:12, NIVUK). When He returned to the Father, the Spirit was poured outโnot on one Son, but on many sons and daughters. You and me.
Seeing Before Doing
In John 5:19, Jesus gives us the key to the miracles manifesting: โI only do what I see the Father doing.โ Power flows from perception. Authority is released through obedience. Heaven moves first, and earth responds.
The hidden, private life of intimacy with God becomes visible, public power through simple acts of obedience. God speaks. God shows. We follow. Power is released.
This has always been the way. Moses lifted his staff, and the sea parted (Exodus 14:16, NIVUK). Joshua shouted in faith, and walls fell (Joshua 6:16, NIVUK). Naaman washed in the Jordan, and his flesh was restored (2 Kings 5:10โ14, NIVUK). Each miracle began with an instruction, not a formula.
I once watched this truth unfold close to home. One of our leaders lived with chronic, painful arthritis. She prayed earnestly. She declared boldly. Nothing shifted. Eventually, she stopped striving and started listening. One evening, the Lord gave a very simpleโand very unusualโinstruction: โAnoint your joints with lemon juice.โ It made no sense. Lemon juice has no healing power in itself. But obedience does. She followed the instruction and woke up completely healed.
That instruction was not a method to repeat. It was a moment of obedience that unlocked a moment of power.
Listening Unlocks Victory
This is how authority works in the Kingdom. The Captain speaks. The soldiers obey. The battle is won.
So today, donโt just pray harder or declare louder. Pause. Ask. Look. Listen. Is there an instruction from heaven waiting to be obeyed?
When you begin to do what the Father is doing, power will follow.
Believe & Confess Meditation & Declaration
Today I live attentive to the Father, doing only what I see Him doing (John 5:19, NIVUK). I am anointed by the Holy Spirit to live and move in Godโs power (Luke 4:18, NIVUK). As I listen and obey, heavenโs authority is released through my life (John 14:12, NIVUK). The Lord directs my steps, and His power follows my obedience (Proverbs 16:9, NIVUK). What God reveals, I will respond to in faith, and I will see His glory manifested (John 2:5, NIVUK).
