Financial Overflow

“Glorify God with all your wealth, honoring him with your very best, with every increase that comes to you. Then every dimension of your life will overflow with blessings from an uncontainable source of inner joy!” Proverbs 3:9-10

The other day, my husband and I were speaking with our financial adviser about the details of our mortgage. As he carefully examined our income and outgoings, he was surprised to discover that we give a tenth of our income to our church.

He began by telling us how generous we were, but then gently suggested that, if necessary, we could use that money to help with our mortgage.

I simply shook my head. “No. That is non-negotiable.”

Not because we are naturally wealthy. Not because we have never faced financial pressure. But because we have learned something through walking with God: we cannot afford to leave God out of our finances.

A Matter of Lordship

Giving is not merely about money; it is about lordship. Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21, NKJV). Our finances can reveal what truly holds our trust.

When we honour God with our firstfruits, we are declaring, “Lord, You are my source. My security is not found in a salary, a savings account, or a financial adviser. My trust is in You.”

I remember hearing a preacher share about his childhood. His family was poor, yet his mother faithfully gave the Lord the first portion of what she received. When someone asked her, “How can you afford to give when you have so little?” she replied, “I can’t afford not to!” What faith!

She understood that they could not survive by human calculations alone. She had discovered the faithfulness of God.

This is not a formula for manipulating God into making us wealthy. Neither is giving a guarantee that life will never contain financial challenges. But Scripture repeatedly calls us to generosity, faithful stewardship and wholehearted trust in our heavenly Father. “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19, NKJV).

My husband and I can testify to countless moments when God has provided—sometimes when we simply needed the bills to be paid, and sometimes through unexpected blessings that enabled us to enjoy things we once only dreamed about.

God has always proved Himself faithful.

Perhaps today the Holy Spirit is inviting you to surrender a fresh area of your life to His lordship. Remember: if Jesus is Lord of all, He is Lord of our finances too. Giving becomes an act of worship, faith and joyful obedience.

Believe & Confess Meditation & Declaration

Today I declare that the Lord is my source, and I honour Him with my possessions and the firstfruits of my increase (Proverbs 3:9–10). I trust God rather than trusting in earthly wealth, because He is faithful to provide everything I truly need (Philippians 4:19). I seek first the kingdom of God, knowing that my heavenly Father cares for every area of my life (Matthew 6:33). I give generously and joyfully, because God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7). I believe that as I sow faithfully, God is able to make all grace abound toward me so that I have sufficiency for every good work (2 Corinthians 9:8). My treasure belongs to God, my heart belongs to God, and Jesus is Lord over every area of my life (Matthew 6:21).
