Everything Your Heart Is Craving

Everything Your Heart Is Craving

โ€œHereโ€™s the one thing I crave from God, the one thing I seek above all else: I want the privilege of living with him every moment in his house, finding the sweet loveliness of his face, filled with awe, delighting in his glory and grace. I want to live my life so close to him that he takes pleasure in my every prayer.โ€ Psalm 27:4 (TPT)

Jesus is full of everything our hearts could ever crave. Everything we truly need is found in Him. He is our peace when life feels chaotic, our joy when circumstances are difficult, our strength when we feel weak and our satisfaction when the things of this world leave us wanting more. So why do we sometimes find ourselves feeling restless, dissatisfied or discontent?

Perhaps itโ€™s because we keep looking for something outside of Jesus to satisfy a longing that only His presence can fill.

David gives us a beautiful glimpse into his heart in Psalm 27:4. Above everything else, he wanted to dwell in God’s presence, behold His beauty and enjoy the wonder of being close to Him. David’s greatest desire wasn’t simply what God could give him, but God Himself.

David was longing for the privilege of being in the place where God’s presence was worshipped and honoured. Yet what an incredible privilege we have today! Through Jesus, we don’t have to travel to a temple or enter a particular building to encounter the living God. We have been brought near through the finished work of the cross.

You are now a dwelling place of His presence!

Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 6:19 (NIV) that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in us. Think about that for a moment. The God David longed to encounter dwells within every believer through His Spirit!

Under the old covenant, God’s presence was associated with the temple, and the sacrificial system pointed towards the ultimate sacrifice that was still to come. Jesus fulfilled what the law and sacrifices could never accomplish permanently. Through His death and resurrection, He opened the way for us to come boldly into God’s presence (Hebrews 10:19โ€“22).

We don’t have to wait for a Sunday service, a conference, an atmosphere of worship or someone to lay hands on us before we can encounter Him. Those moments can be wonderful opportunities to experience God’s presence together, but they are not the only places He meets us.

You can turn your heart towards Him right here, right now. In your kitchen, your car, your workplace or your bedroom. You can pray, worship, open His Word and invite the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh.

Jesus promised that our Heavenly Father gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him (Luke 11:13). What a wonderful invitation! We don’t have to earn His presence or persuade Him to love us. We come through Jesus, with open hearts, ready to receive.

So don’t settle for a life spent chasing things that can never satisfy. Make room for the One who is satisfaction itself. Don’t take for granted the extraordinary access you have to God. The Holy Spirit is not simply someone you visit at church; He is the One who lives within you.

The greatest thing you can receive is the One who has already given Himself to you.

Why not pause today and ask Him to fill you afresh? Not because He is distant, but because there is always more of His love, truth, wisdom and transforming presence for us to discover as we walk with Him.

Believe & Confess Meditation & Declaration

I am a temple of the Holy Spirit, and He lives within me (1 Corinthians 6:19). I have boldness to enter God’s presence through the blood of Jesus (Hebrews 10:19). My Heavenly Father delights to give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him (Luke 11:13). In God’s presence there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11). Christ lives in me, and His life is transforming me (Galatians 2:20). Jesus is my source, my satisfaction and everything my heart truly needs (Colossians 2:10).
