Come Like A Child

“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:10-11 NIV

Children are wonderfully uninhibited when it comes to asking their parents for what they want or need.

Can I have this? Can you buy me that? Can you help me? Can I have some more?

They don’t spend hours worrying whether they are worthy to ask. They simply know something profound:

My Father loves me, and I can ask Him.

Yet somewhere along the journey into adulthood, many of us lose that simplicity. We become independent. We learn to provide for ourselves, solve our own problems and make our own way.

Independence can be useful in life, but spiritually, it can become a trap, because God never intended for you to live as though you have no Father.

Your Father Is a Good Father

Jesus gives us an extraordinary picture of the Father’s heart in Matthew 7:9-11:

“If your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? … If you know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:9–11).

Think about those words: how much more!

Jesus isn’t revealing a reluctant Father who has to be persuaded into generosity. He is revealing a Father whose heart is good.

God is not stingy.
God is not distant.
God is not irritated by your prayers.
He invites you to ask.

Who Are You Depending On?

Of course, God can provide through your employer. He can use family and friends. He can work through opportunities, relationships, businesses and countless other means.

But don’t confuse the channel with the Source.
Your employer is not ultimately your provider.
Your bank account is not your security.
People are not your ultimate source of wisdom, love or protection.

These things can be blessings from God, but they are temporary and changeable. Your Father is eternal and unchanging.

Paul reminds us,

“My God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).

So where is your confidence?

In the pay packet—or in the Father who provides it?
In people’s approval—or in the Father who calls you His own?
In your ability to figure everything out—or in the God who knows exactly what you need?

Become Like a Child Again

Jesus said that we must become like little children to enter the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 18:3).

Childlike faith doesn’t mean childish thinking. It means simple trust.

A child doesn’t worry about whether there will be enough food tomorrow. They trust their father.

Perhaps God is inviting you back to that place today.
Come like a child.
Ask boldly.
Trust completely.
Receive gratefully.

Whatever you need—wisdom, provision, friendship, security, healing, breakthrough or deliverance—bring it to your Father.

Jesus said, “Your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him” (Matthew 6:8).

And then He gives us the priority that unlocks our perspective:

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” (Matthew 6:33).

So throw off the burden of self-reliance.
You don’t have to carry everything yourself.
You have a Father, and today He is saying:

“Come to Me, My child. Ask Me. Trust Me. Everything you truly need is already known to Me.”

Believe & Confess Meditation & Declaration

I am a beloved child of my heavenly Father, and I can come to Him with confidence (1 John 3:1; Hebrews 4:16). I ask my Father for what I need, trusting that He delights to give good gifts to His children (Matthew 7:9–11). I seek first God’s Kingdom and His righteousness, trusting Him to provide everything I need (Matthew 6:33). My God supplies all my needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). I cast all my anxieties on Him because He cares for me (1 Peter 5:7). I trust my heavenly Father completely because He knows what I need even before I ask (Matthew 6:8).
