A Word For The Battle Weary
โAbove all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.โ โ Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)
There are moments in life and ministry that are deeply pivotal. And I believe the Church is at one right now. (Read my recent books 500 and The Divine Reset and Beyond for more on this.)
Moments when God is shifting things. Shaking things. Repositioning things. Moments where the old wineskin is cracking and something new is trying to emerge.
And those moments are dangerous.
Not because God is absent, but because transition exposes the condition of the heart. When familiar structures shake, hidden fears, insecurities, offences and flesh reactions suddenly rise to the surface. The altar gets tested.
And honestly, I believe many people get stuck in transition because they mishandle the shaking season.
It reminds me a little of the Groundhog Day, where Bill Murray wakes up trapped reliving the same day over and over again until he finally changes internally. Some believers live spiritually like that โ circling the same mountains, repeating the same reactions, sabotaging the same opportunities because they never allow God to transform the deeper places of the heart.
Donโt let that become your story. Learn quickly in shaking seasons. Because the enemy desperately wants to poison pivotal moments.
Donโt Become a Victim
One of the enemyโs favourite strategies during difficult seasons is convincing people they are victims rather than participants in Godโs shaping process.
โLook what they did to me.โ
โThis wasnโt fair.โ
โNobody understands.โ
โI deserved better.โ
And honestly, pain is real. Hurt is real. Leadership transitions, church conflict, disappointment and betrayal genuinely wound people. This chapter is not about pretending difficult things do not hurt.
But it is about refusing to let pain become your identity. Do not allow disappointment to become the altar upon which your future dies.
Toughen your spirit. Not into hardness, but into maturity.
Become the bravest version of yourself. The most forgiving version. The most faith-filled version. The most bridge-building version. Fight to remain tender when it would be easier to become cynical.
Because this moment matters more than you realise.
A Word for the Battle-Weary
Maybe you are tired. Maybe the journey has left you bruised, disappointed or emotionally ragged around the edges. Leadership, ministry and life itself can leave deep marks upon people.
But hear this clearly: you are stronger than you think.
God would not have led you this far if His grace were insufficient to carry you further.
And one of the beautiful things about difficult seasons is that they reveal growth we did not realise had happened within us. The old reactions that once controlled you do not need to control you anymore.
You do not need to become the fearful, offended or emotionally reactive version of yourself from twenty years ago.
The altar has changed you.
You are wiser now. Stronger now. More surrendered now. So do not revert to old flesh patterns simply because pressure has increased.
Stand up again. Shake off offence. Open your mouth in praise. Reach upward again. Reach outward again. Press forward again.
This is not the end of your story. It may actually be the beginning of something remarkable.

Believe & Confess Meditation & Declaration
I will guard my heart carefully during seasons of transition, shaking and change (Proverbs 4:23). God is using difficult seasons to mature, strengthen and refine my character for His purposes (Romans 8:28). I will not allow offence, disappointment or bitterness to poison the altar of my heart (Hebrews 12:15). The grace of God is sufficient to carry me through every battle, transition and testing season (2 Corinthians 12:9). I will remain tender, forgiving and faith-filled even when pressure increases around me (Ephesians 4:31-32). The Holy Spirit is making me wiser, stronger and more surrendered through every challenge I face (James 1:2-4). This is not the end of my story โ God is leading me into something new, fruitful and full of His presence (Isaiah 43:18-19).
