Win The Battle In Your Mind
โSet your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.โ โ Colossians 3:2
I recently watched an interview with two different sportsmen, and both made the same fascinating observation: they could hardly remember the details of the matches they had won, but they could vividly remember the ones they had lost.
When they won, they celebrated with their team mates and moved on. But when they lost, the disappointment stayed with them for daysโand sadly, those closest to them often felt the effects of their misery.
Isnโt that just like us? We can receive ten encouraging comments about something we have done, yet one negative word can dominate our thoughts for the rest of the day. Somehow, the negative gets louder than the positive.
The Battle For Your Mind
There is a spiritual battle taking place in our thought life. The enemy would love to fill our minds with fear, disappointment, accusation, insecurity and memories of failure. But God has given us weapons to pull down those strongholds and bring our thoughts into alignment with His truth.
Paul writes in 2 Corinthians that,
โWe demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God,ย and we take captive every thought to make it obedientย to Christ.โ 2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV.
This is why Peter tells us,
โSo then, prepare your hearts and minds for action! Stay alert and fix your hope firmly on the marvelous grace that is coming to you. For when Jesus Christ is unveiled, a greater measure of grace will be released to you.โ1 Peter 1:13 TPT.
In other words: get your mind ready! Stay alert! Fix your hope on what God is doing and what He has promised.
You may have had a difficult season, but your difficult season does not have the final word. You may have experienced disappointment, but disappointment does not cancel Godโs purpose. You may have fallen, but failure is not your identity.
Paul gives us this powerful encouragement:
โLet us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.โ Galatians 6:9 ESV.
Donโt give up! Keep feeding your spirit with the Word. Keep worshipping when you donโt feel like it. Keep praying when the answer seems delayed. Keep believing when circumstances contradict your faith.
Renewing your mind is not a one-time event. It is a daily decision. Every morning, you can choose what you will magnify. You can rehearse the problem, or you can remember the promise. You can meditate on what went wrong, or you can declare what God has said.
As you consistently bring your thoughts under the authority of Godโs Word, you will discover that victory becomes more familiar than defeat.
Believe & Confess Meditation & Declaration
I have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16). I set my mind on things above and not merely on earthly things (Colossians 3:2). I am transformed as my mind is renewed by God (Romans 12:2). I think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report (Philippians 4:8). I do not grow weary in doing good, because I will reap in due season if I refuse to give up (Galatians 6:9). I am strong in the Lord and in the power of His might (Ephesians 6:10).
