We Need Fire Again!

Faith builds. Longing burns. Prayer rises. Listening positions the heart to hear God clearly.

But eventually there comes a moment when human effort reaches its limit. Because no altar can sustain holy fire without the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

The tribe of Levi was set apart for the presence of God. While the other tribes received territories and earthly inheritance, Levi’s inheritance was different:

“I am your share and your inheritance among the Israelites.” — Numbers 18:20 (NIV)

What a staggering statement.

Levi was called to minister before the Lord, carry the ark, tend the sanctuary and steward the holy things of God. Their lives revolved around His presence. They understood something that the modern Church must rediscover urgently:

The altar is not meant to function naturally.

It was always designed to host the supernatural presence of God.

When the Glory Fills the House

Without the Holy Spirit, Christianity quickly becomes exhausting. Worship becomes performance. Ministry becomes machinery. Prayer becomes routine. Leaders burn out trying to achieve spiritually through human strength what can only ever be birthed by the Spirit of God.

But when the Spirit is poured out, everything changes.

The altar comes alive.

Throughout Scripture, altars and outpouring are constantly connected. Fire falls on surrendered places. Glory fills consecrated spaces. God responds where hearts are yielded fully to Him.

When Solomon dedicated the temple, the priests could not even continue ministering because the glory of God filled the house so powerfully:

“The priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple of God.” — 2 Chronicles 5:14 (NIV)

This is what altars were built for.

Not merely gatherings. Not merely songs. Not merely sermons.

Presence.

Moses understood this when he cried out:

“If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” — Exodus 33:15 (NIV)

In other words, “We do not want ministry without You. We do not want movement without glory. We do not want activity without Your presence among us.”

And perhaps this is where the Church must return again in this hour.

We cannot manufacture revival through talent, branding or relentless activity. The fire that transforms lives does not come from human charisma. It comes from heaven. We do not need merely polished churches; we need burning altars once again.

And burning altars require outpouring.

The Altar Must Become Supernatural

The early Church understood this. Before they preached publicly, they waited privately. Before miracles flowed in the streets, they tarried in the upper room. Jesus told them:

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you…” — Acts 1:8 (NIV)

And when the Spirit came, frightened disciples became bold witnesses. Prayer meetings shook buildings. Ordinary believers carried extraordinary authority. Demons fled. The sick were healed. Thousands were saved.

Why?

Because the altar had become supernatural.

And God has not changed.

The Holy Spirit still longs to fill surrendered hearts. He still empowers weak people. He still breathes upon hungry churches. He still pours fire upon prepared altars.

The Church does not merely need better systems.

She needs the Spirit of God once again.
