We Need Each Other

We Need Each Other

“Carry one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2 NIV

Recently, I was saddened to hear that a friend was going through an incredibly difficult season. I immediately prayed for her, but I also encouraged her to talk to some trusted people I knew would be able to support and help her.

Her response stopped me:

“I didn’t want to be a burden to anyone.”

How many of us have said something similar?

We don’t want to bother people. We don’t want to inconvenience anyone. We don’t want others to see our struggles. So we put on a brave face, say we’re fine, and carry on as though everything is okay. But sometimes what sounds like independence is actually isolation.

You Don’t Have to Carry It Alone

The enemy would love nothing more than to convince us that we have to handle everything by ourselves.

Don’t tell anyone.
They’ve got enough going on.
You should be stronger than this.
Just deal with it yourself.

But that’s not God’s design for His people.

Paul tells us plainly:

“Carry one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2 NIV

Notice the word “one another.”

Christianity was never designed to be lived in isolation. We are part of the Body of Christ. We belong to one another. Sometimes we are strong enough to carry someone else, and sometimes we are the ones who need somebody to help carry us.

Of course, our first response should always be to bring our burdens to the Lord.

Psalm 55:22 says,

“Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you” (NKJV).

Jesus never intended you to carry the weight of anxiety, fear and worry on your own. He invites you to bring it to Him.

Peter writes,

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7 NIV).

What a beautiful invitation. You can bring Him the things you can’t explain. The things you don’t know how to fix. The things that keep you awake at night. The things you don’t feel able to tell anyone else.

He cares for you.

But casting your burdens on Jesus doesn’t mean refusing the support of His people. Sometimes God’s answer to our prayer comes through another believer.

We do need wisdom about who we share sensitive things with. Not everyone needs access to every detail of our lives. There are people who are trustworthy, spiritually mature and safe, and there are people who aren’t. So pray for discernment. But please don’t let the fear of being a burden stop you from reaching out to the right people.

Galatians 5:13–14 reminds us that we are called to “serve one another humbly in love” and that the law is fulfilled in loving our neighbour as ourselves (NIV).

Think about that. If we are called to help carry someone else’s burden, then there will inevitably be moments when we need someone to help carry ours.

Sometimes it takes greater humility to say, “I need you to stand with me,” than it does to pretend we have everything under control.

The next time you’re tempted to say, “I don’t want to be a burden to anyone,” pause.

Take that burden to Jesus first. Then ask Him who you can trust to walk alongside you. Call the friend. Ask for prayer. Let someone sit with you. Tell a mature believer what you’re facing. And if you need professional, pastoral or practical help, don’t be afraid to seek it.

You were never created to fly solo.
We belong to one another.

So carry someone’s burden today—and when your own becomes too heavy, be humble enough to let someone carry yours.

Believe & Confess Meditation & Declaration

I declare that I cast all my anxiety on Jesus because He cares for me [1 Peter 5:7]. I choose to carry the burdens of others and fulfil the law of Christ [Galatians 6:2]. I believe that God is my refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble [Psalm 46:1]. I will not isolate myself, but I will walk in the strength and fellowship of the Body of Christ [1 Corinthians 12:27]. I choose to love and serve others humbly [Galatians 5:13]. I declare that I am never alone, because Jesus is with me always [Matthew 28:20].
