Under New Management

โ€œFor the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,โ€

2 Corinthians 10:4โ€“5 NKJV

Get Your Mind Under New Management

One reality of broken humanity is that thoughts rampage through our minds – sometimes itโ€™s subtle, sometimes it is all out war! Am I right?

Some researchers suggest we can have up to 50,000 thoughts a day โ€” and most lean towards the negative. From the inner memory banks of our souls come flashes of fear, guilt, shame, embarrassment, hurt, hate, anxiety, trauma and grief. Oh boy. What fun!

Why is this?

The truth is, we have been saved (Ephesians 2:8), and we belong to God; but Scripture also reveals an ongoing work โ€” we are being transformed as a process (II Corinthians 3:18). While our spirits come alive instantly; our soul โ€” our mind, will and emotions โ€” are in process.

I wish it happened with one prayer, one click, one altar moment. But transformation is a journey. And youโ€™re going to have to be intentional about it.

Here in 2 Corinthians 10 we are handed one of heavenโ€™s secrets to renewing the mind:ย take every thought captive.

Your mind needs a police force.

A passive approach will not fix destructive thinking. Hoping bad thoughts will evaporate is not a strategy. Assuming everything you think is true is also a dangerous deception. โ€œThe heart is deceitful above all thingsโ€ (Jeremiah 17:9). Left unchecked, your thought life will shape your destiny โ€” and not always for good. We all need to take action against our minds unfiltered nonsense!

Paul tells us we have weapons that are โ€œmighty in Godโ€ (II Corinthians 10:4). Not carnal. Not psychological tricks alone. Not mere positive thinking. These weapons pull down strongholds โ€” the entrenched patterns of poor thought that exalt themselves against the knowledge of God.

Notice that phrase: against the knowledge of God. The battlefield is not merely emotional; it is theological. Wrong thoughts misrepresent who God is, who you are, and what He has promised. Your thinking will alter your life.

So how do we fight? How do we arrest our thoughts?

Use your mouth.

Ponder this a moment: You cannot say one thing while consciously thinking another. Try counting to ten in your head while reciting the Lordโ€™s Prayer aloud. You will find that your mouth hijacks your mind. This is why biblical meditation is not silent detachment but verbal engagement. โ€œThis Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and nightโ€ (Joshua 1:8).

The Hebrew idea of meditation is to mutter, whisper, declare. By this we arrest poor thoughts that will led us astray, or keep us small, defeated, fearful and instead give space to embrace the truth that sets us free, the words that can bring life, the faith that invites Godโ€™s miraculous power.

So, when your mind is awash with shame, you arrest it with, โ€œThere is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesusโ€ (Romans 8:1). When fear screams, you get out the handcuffs with โ€œGod has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mindโ€ (II Timothy 1:7). When anxiety rattles your cage, you slam the door on it with, โ€œBe anxious for nothingโ€ฆ and the peace of Godโ€ฆ will guard your hearts and mindsโ€ (Philippians 4:6โ€“7).

And you do it until the old thought surrenders to the new. Like any new habit, it can take time – but you will win!

Grab self-harming thoughts. Slap handcuffs on them. โ€œIn the slammer for you!โ€ Replace them with Scripture. This is why we read the Bible โ€” not merely to gain information, but to recalibrate to truth.

Yesterday I prayed a bold prayer for my son Zach. โ€œLord, I believe You want this even more than I do โ€” so let it happen now!โ€ โ€ฆand immediately, a small but remarkable miracle unfolded.

Jesus said, โ€œIf you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for youโ€ (John 15:7). I intentionally accessed truth, (instead of my own fears) wrapped my faith around it, and heaven moved! I was overjoyed!

Jesus taught us that if His words remain in us, heaven will respond (John 15). We must conclude then that if we are full of mere human words, weโ€™ll get mere human outcomes.

Smith Wigglesworth once said that if he could only think like Jesus thought, he would see what Jesus saw (And boy did that miracle working man get there!). Today, โ€œLet this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesusโ€ (Philippians 2:5). Hammer godly thinking into your mind, and let transformation follow. โ€œBe transformed by the renewing of your mindโ€ (Romans 12:2).

Speak faith to capture fearful thoughts. Speak forgiveness to arrest shame. Speak peace to taser anxiety. Whisper healing over sickness. Shout hallelujah at depressive clouds. โ€œSing, O barrenโ€ (Isaiah 54:1) when you feel lack. Wrap your brain around Bible truth and defeat your enemy, โ€œthe father of liesโ€.

And remember โ€” you are not fighting alone. The One who commands you to take thoughts captive supplies the weapons and stands beside you. โ€œThe Lord is my helper; I will not fearโ€ (Hebrews 13:6).

From today, your mind is under new management. Be transformed, one thought at a time.

Believe & Confess Meditation & Declaration

Today I declare that the weapons of my warfare are mighty in God for pulling down strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4), and I bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). I receive the mind of Christ and let His mind be formed in me (1 Corinthians 2:16; Philippians 2:5). I refuse condemnation because I am in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1), and I reject fear because God has given me power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). I choose to be transformed by the renewing of my mind (Romans 12:2), and I let the peace of God guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). His words abide in me, and I ask according to His will with bold faith (John 15:7; I John 5:14).

I Declare

Speaking out the truth of Godโ€™s Word is powerful and will fight off mental disturbances, by saturating our minds and hearts with the Word of God. The Bible tells us in Hebrews 4:12 that Godโ€™s Word is a double-edged sword in our hands. Even Jesus used the spoken scriptures to silence the devil in times of temptation; how much more should we! (Matt 4)
