Three Questions About Ruling In Life

Three Questions About Ruling In Life

We must regularly make sure we are seeing our lives from Godโ€™s divine perspective – You and I were made to rule, to carry responsibility. We must never abdicate the throne God gives us, simply by looking at life from the place of a victim or with mere earthly perspective.

โ€œThen God said, โ€œLet us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.โ€

So God created mankind in his own image,
    in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

God blessed them and said to them, โ€œBe fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.โ€

Genesis 1:26-28

Godโ€™s mandate for mankind is that we should rule wherever we are. The New Testament only strengthens this theme:

โ€œFor if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive Godโ€™s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!โ€

Romans 5:17

Of course, we must consider ruling and reigning with divine eyes, and not through the fallen lenses of fleshly or cruel authority. To rule with godliness is to take responsibility, to nurture, to protect, to guide and to serve. To discipline where required, but also to love deeply.

There is no room here for authoritarian heavy handedness or being a control freak. Rather we are to subdue the world with kindness, to fill the earth with grace, to be as clear a picture of our loving Heavenly Father as we can. That is leadership as our Father models it.

Here are three questions to ponder about your calling, the responsibility God has given you on the earth, and whether you are approaching that call from a place of weariness and fear, or faith, joy and divine hope:

  1. Your Spheres of Influenceย You were made to rule in life by Godโ€™s grace, over
    a) yourself
    b) a sphere of influence at home
    c) for most, some additional spheres of responsibility (e.g. work, justice, societal and/or within the Church).
Can you list the spheres of influence you are, could be or should be influencing?
  2. Fearless Dreamingย If money was no object, and your fears did not exist, what spheres of influence would you dream of being responsible in? (e.g. family, business, youth, evangelism?)
  3. Dealing with Avoidanceย Are there any inner thoughts or perspectives, about yourself, God or others, that are making you avoid ruling with responsibility in these areas?

Why not take some time today to ponder these questions, asking God to grow your rulership in life, by clearly identifying your spheres of rulership, identifying fears and dealing with any areas of avoidance. It could be life-transforming!

Please could you make the print easier to read? I struggle to read the tiny light grey font.
    Thank you

Thanks Diana. We will look at that. I think it might be some models of phone as it isnโ€™t a small grey font on ours. Does your phone have a โ€œreader viewโ€ (often one end of the website bar, where the web address is, you press a button)โ€ฆ and it brings up a way to view it and adjust the font size and style?
