There’s Goodness In The Gunk

“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.” Genesis 50:20

Joseph went through a tough time.

He went from being favourite son to a slave, favoured by Potiphar to prisoner. He was a man of dreams. A man of discernment who knew His God.

“The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did….” Genesis 39:2-3

When God’s favour is on you, when He gives you dreams and you walk in His ways, I guarantee this will attract envy, jealousy and other demonic opposition.

But whatever was thrown at Joseph to bring him down, God used it to take him to the next level, which led Joseph to a place far above and beyond his expectations.

From prisoner to Prime Minister.

Recently I planted a large shrub in my garden. I had to dig a hole twice as big as it’s pot, then once planted, I filled the hole with a special compost which contained a mixture of fresh rotten organic matter and manure.

To my eyes (and nose), it was horrible, gunky, rotting dead stuff and poo! Nothing special about it….it was gross!!

But I can tell you today. That shrub is thriving.

There’s goodness in the gunk!

Sometimes you have got to go through some “gunk”… “rubbish”… “poo” (whatever you want to call it), to get you to where God wants you to be.

Like this shrub and like Joseph you may feel like you’re in a hole with a load of manure thrown on you.  Broken relationships, hurtful conversations, spiteful words, lost dreams, betrayals, deaths, lies and disappointments.

Let them be the ultimate compost that catapult you to far beyond your wildest dreams.

Don’t let it make you bitter, let it make you better. Don’t let it dwell in your heart, place it under your feet, let it bring nourishment to your roots and let it make you stronger.

Even in his darkest hour, Joseph kept his heart clean and trusted God to look after him.

“Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined. But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favour in the eyes of the prison warden.” Genesis 39:20 NIV

God will honour you and He will vindicate you.

Trust Him and He will lift you out of the pit (Ps 40), and place royal robes on your shoulders (Gen 41:42).

Then perhaps you can look at your brothers and sisters and say, “you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good” Gen 50:20.

I declare today that, what was meant for evil, God Is using for good and like Joseph, I am chosen by God and destined for purpose. Though I may walk through betrayal, injustice, or seasons of delay, I know that God is with me and for me—just as “the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did” (Genesis 39:23).

I may be misunderstood, falsely accused, or forgotten by man—but I am never forgotten by God. Every setback is a setup for His divine plan in my life. I declare that every pit, prison, and delay is preparing me for the palace of His promise.
