The Right Two
โThen Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two spies from Shittim. โGo, look over the land,โ he said, โespecially Jericho.โโ
Joshua 2:1 NIVUK
Forty years earlier, twelve spies went into Canaan. Only two came back speaking faith. The rest spread fear, and a whole generation wandered in circles. Think about itโthe large group was wrong, the small group believed God. And God waited for a generation with the right spirit before moving His people forward.
Now Joshua sends two spies. Not twelve. Why? Because sometimes the right two are better than the wrong twelve. Some battles arenโt won by numbers, but by faith-filled hearts.
We live in a culture obsessed with โbig.โ Big teams. Big followings. Big crowds. But big can also mean bloated, distracted, divided. You can have twelve voices around you and still be listening to the wrong ones. You can fill a room but fail to move a heart. You can hire more staff and weaken the faith muscle of your church. Numbers arenโt strengthโunity, faith, obedience, and mission are.
Church history teaches a clear lesson:
Many churches decline not because they lack people, but because they rely on numbers instead of God. Too many paid staff for the size? It often strangles initiative. People think, โSomeone else will do it.โ Soon passion fades, mission dilutes, and culture weakens.
The same is true in life. In your teens, a big friendship circle may feel exciting. But most mature believers discover that life is richest with one or two godly friends who pray with you, challenge you, and walk with you through every season. Two or three gathered in His name can shake a city harder than three hundred who merely attend.
Jesus changed the world with twelveโand really, His inner circle was three.
David counted his fighting men and got into trouble. Why? Because God never asked us to count headsโHe asked us to count on Him. Faith isnโt measured by how many stand with you, but that God stands among you.
So donโt despise small beginnings, small circles, or small teams. Donโt envy crowdsโcultivate depth. Build faith, unity, holiness, intimacy with God, flexibility, and mission, and youโll find joy, fruitfulness, and impact beyond numbers.
In Godโs kingdom, less can be more. The right two can take Jericho. The right three can call heaven down. And one believer with God is always a majority.
Stop counting people. Start trusting God. He doesnโt need manyโjust the right few.

I will trust God with the small things, knowing that He is faithful in every detail. โWhoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with muchโ (Luke 16:10). I choose obedience in the ordinary, diligence in the unseen, and faithfulness in the daily moments. โDo not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work beginโ (Zechariah 4:10).
I place every step, every choice, and every seed in Godโs hands. As I commit my ways to Him, He establishes my path (Proverbs 16:3). What feels hidden today is being multiplied by His purpose.
