The Oak Inside You

The Oak Inside You

โ€œHe has made everything beautiful in its time.โ€ โ€” Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV

Inside every acorn is an entire forest.

Every oak tree produces immeasurable acorns, so the potential of a simple acorn is limitless.ย

Think about that for a moment.

It is astonishing to think that something so small can carry within it the capacity to become something so great. An acorn may look insignificant, but hidden inside it is a future that cannot yet be seen.

There is a beautiful childrenโ€™s story by Max Lucado called The Oak Inside the Acorn.

The story journeys through the life of an acorn who firstly doesnโ€™t want to leave Mother Oak, but his mother keeps telling him โ€œwithin you is a great oak tree, Little Acorn. Just be the tree God made you to be.โ€

Little Acorn couldnโ€™t work out how he was going to be a big Oak, but slowly and surely the little acorn got buried, became a sapling then grew into a Big Oak.

Buried Does Not Mean Forgotten

Perhaps you are in a season where you feel a little like that acorn.

We all go through dark times, some darker than others. But like the acorn, the feeling of being buried, forgotten and surrounded by darkness might actually be God positioning you for greatness.ย

He knows your full potential. He also knows how much you can cope with.ย  He will never push you beyond what you can bear, but sometimes those ingredients He placed in you can only come out through placing you in conditions which will force you to break out of your shell and grow into the person God has called you to be.

Paul reminds us that

โ€œthe God who began a good work in you will carry it on to completionโ€ [Philippians 1:6 NIV].

God sees what you cannot yet see.

You may be an acorn today, but God sees the oak.

And here’s the wonderful thing: the oak doesn’t have to strive to become an oak. It simply needs to remain planted, receive what God provides, and grow through every season.

Jesus said,

โ€œRemain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vineโ€ [John 15:4 NIV].

So stay connected to Jesus. Keep growing. Keep trusting. Keep putting down roots. You may feel hidden, but Heaven has not overlooked you. You are being formed, and the God who planted the seed knows exactly what He intends it to become.

Believe & Confess Meditation & Declaration

I declare that God is completing the good work He began in me [Philippians 1:6]. I declare that I am fearfully and wonderfully made [Psalm 139:14]. I declare that I remain in Christ and bear fruit through Him [John 15:4โ€“5]. I declare that God has prepared good works for me to walk in [Ephesians 2:10]. I declare that God is making everything beautiful in His time [Ecclesiastes 3:11]. I declare that I will not despise small beginnings, because God is faithfully growing what He has planted in me [Zechariah 4:10].
