The Lord’s Prayer: THE FATHER’S REWARD
โBut when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father,ย who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.โ Matthew 6:6
In this verse Jesus isnโt giving us a picture or a parable, itโs simply a command. Pray, and when you pray go into a private place, and shut the door. And there you will meet my Father!
Wow!
If you are going to your secret place of prayer, and praying as he taught us to pray, youโre not just going to know religion โ youโre going to know HIM! And what is more, the verse says that when we pray in secret, He rewards us!
Jesus then goes on to teach us, not what to pray, but how to pray. The dynamic principles of prayer in these well-known verses (9-13):
โThis, then, is how you should pray:
โโOur Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil oneโ
Everything you need to know about prayer is in those few verses. Over the next few days weโre going to go more deeply into these words, but for now, slowly re-read them, dwelling on the truth of each phrase.
