Soul Searching Questions

I often pause, reflect, journal and ask myself tough questions in God’s presence. I find it life giving and transformative. 

God has led me kindly through countless deep, soul-searching and heaven seeking question times, some nudging my soul towards a better perspective, while some have carved great lumps out of my ego! 

Some of the dozens of questions God has placed before me over recent seasons I have compiled into five key areas for you. Perhaps these questions will help you shift towards the new era God has for you too?

1. My Posture

Is my approach to life healthy? Are my heart, mind, body and soul in a ready posture to enter the new era? Am I supple, surrendered, fully in love with Him? Am I being faithful in the small, practical things? (Don’t be discouraged, many will answer “No” – so ask a further question: “What can I do to improve the posture of my life?”)

2. My Purpose

Can I clearly see God’s purpose for me in the new era? What does God want to do with the rest of my life? Why was I born? Am I accurately fulfilling God’s purpose for me, or have I drifted or even run, from them? (You might want to list some unfulfilled prophetic words/dreams given you or ask, “What am I passionate about or gifted in?” Best of all, take time listening to God.)

3. My People

What close relationships do I need for entering the new era? Is my marriage healthy? Am I in the right spiritual relationships for the next phase of my life? Are there any connections that are bad for me, and that I need to put at a little more distance, or even cut off all together? Am I in the right church family, and I am going deep enough there?

4. My Purity

Am I doing, thinking, saying or avoiding anything that I need to change, to line up with God’s will for my life? Am I compromising in any small ways, and making excuses for sin? Am I still trusting God’s grace to change my behaviours and my beliefs? List the areas where you feel convicted to change, ask God’s forgiveness and receive it fully (forgive yourself too!). Then write a list of the changes, with practical plans if necessary, to help bring necessary development in these areas. Ask God for grace to help you.

5. His Power

Am I still trusting God for miracles? Am I living a supernatural life, or have a dumbed down this supernatural adventure to the point where I need no Divine intervention anymore? What mountains of difficulty do I need God’s divine power to move in this next era? How should I change my daily trust and declaration to see them move? Start to pray daily over your impossibilities, asking God to move on your behalf.

Maybe it’s a good day to journal, pen in hand, and take time to let God search, comfort and empower you.
