โ€œHe who walks with the wise grows wise, but a friend of fools suffers harm.โ€ (Proverbs 13:20)

The people we walk with shape the people we become. Scripture is clear: our companions either sharpen us for Godโ€™s purposes or dull us for lesser ones. Influence is contagious, whether we notice it or not. Attitudes, habits, and even spiritual strength are absorbed simply through proximity. This is why alignment matters so deeply in every season of life.

God often uses relationships as a catalyst for transformation. When we align with those who are wise, Spirit-filled, and further along in faith, we are stretched into new territory. Just being around people of greater vision or deeper intimacy with God awakens something in us. Science affirms what Scripture has always taught: our brains and hearts are changed by new experiences and influences.

This is especially important in times of transition. New seasons require new alignments. To remain tied only to the familiar can leave us stuck in the past, unable to step into what God is unfolding. Instead, we are called to seek out relationships that draw us forward. Mentors, spiritual mothers and fathers, peers of strong faithโ€”these voices become gifts that expand our capacity.

But there is also a warning. Aligning with the wrong influences erodes wisdom and dulls discernment. If we keep company with envy, cynicism, or compromise, we will mirror those traits. The call is not just to gain friends, but to prayerfully pursue God-given alignments.

Reflection: Who you walk with will shape who you become. Choose companions who draw you closer to Christ and further into your calling.

Recommendation: Evaluate your closest relationships in light of Proverbs 13:20.
Next step: Intentionally seek one new alignment that will stretch your faith this season.

I choose to walk with the wise and grow in wisdom, for โ€œWalk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harmโ€ (Proverbs 13:20). I choose relationships that sharpen me, encourage me, and draw me closer to Christ. โ€œAs iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens anotherโ€ (Proverbs 27:17).

I declare that God will surround me with godly counsel and faithful companions who will strengthen my faith. โ€œTwo are better than oneโ€ฆ if either of them falls down, one can help the other upโ€ (Ecclesiastes 4:9โ€“10). Today, I step away from harmful influences and embrace community that aligns with Godโ€™s Word.
