Mark The Moment

Mark The Moment

โ€œSurely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.โ€ โ€” Genesis 28:16

Recognising the Moment

Jacobโ€™s encounter at Bethel is one of those moments in Scripture that captures the essence of divine encounter. He wakes from a dream, overwhelmed by the realisation: โ€œSurely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of itโ€ (Genesis 28:16). It is both a revelation and a recognitionโ€”that God was present before he perceived Him.

How often is that true for us?

The Response of the Altar

What Jacob does next is just as important as the encounter itself. He takes the stone he had slept on, sets it up as a pillar, pours oil on it, and names the place Bethelโ€”โ€œHouse of Godโ€ (Genesis 28:18โ€“19).

He marks the moment.

He creates a memorial.

He builds an altar.

Why Creativity Matters

There is something powerful about capturing what God has done through some act of remembrance. Writing it down, building an altar, singing it out, telling the story, creating something that reflects the encounter. Creativity becomes the language of remembrance, the way we anchor moments of glory so they are not lost to time.

Because what is remembered can be revisited.

Returning to the Place of Encounter

Throughout Scripture, God calls His people to rememberโ€”to rehearse what He has done, to tell the next generation, to revisit the places where heaven broke in. Not out of nostalgia, but out of faith.

Because the same God who moved thenโ€ฆ

moves again.

Build Altars That Speak

Your life is full of moments where God has been present, even if you did not fully recognise it at the time. The invitation is to go back, to mark those moments, to build altars of remembrance that strengthen your faith and shape your future.

Because when you remember rightlyโ€ฆ

you expect boldly.

Believe & Confess Meditation & Declaration

God is present in my life, and I am aware of His movement around me (Genesis 28:16). I remember the works of the Lord and give thanks for all He has done (Psalm 77:11). I build altars of remembrance that strengthen my faith (Joshua 4:7). God is faithful in every season, and I trust Him fully (Lamentations 3:22โ€“23). I declare His works to the next generation and testify of His goodness (Psalm 145:4). The same God who has moved in my past is moving powerfully in my present (Hebrews 13:8).
