Isolation Precedes Breakthrough
โI declare the end from the beginning, and from long ago what is not yet done, saying: my plan will take place, and I will do all my will.โ โ Isaiah 46:10 CSB
Have you ever found yourself in a season when everything seems to have stopped? Doors close, plans change, opportunities disappear and suddenly you find yourself in a place of restriction, isolation or uncertainty. Your first response might well be to ask God, โWhat is going on? What are You doing?โ
As I read the Bible again and again, I have been struck by a fascinating pattern in the lives of some of its greatest characters.
Noah spent many months inside the ark while the floodwaters covered the earth. Joseph endured years of slavery and imprisonment before being elevated to a position of influence in Egypt. The Israelites wandered in the wilderness for forty years before the next generation entered the Promised Land.
Restriction & isolation preceded breakthrough and promotion.
God is working in the waiting
Could it be that the season you are frustrated with is actually a season God wants to use to prepare you for what lies ahead?
We must be careful not to assume that every difficult circumstance is sent by God or that every trial will result in earthly promotion. But we can be absolutely confident that no season is beyond His ability to redeem.
Joseph eventually recognised this when he told his brothers,
โYou intended to harm me, but God intended it for goodโ Genesis 50:20 NIV.
What others meant for evil, God was able to turn towards a greater purpose.
God sees the end from the beginning. He knows what we cannot see, understands what we cannot understand and remains faithful when our circumstances seem anything but certain.
Romans 8:28 reminds us that โin all things God works for the good of those who love himโ Romans 8:28 NIV.
Use the season you’re in
So, rather than simply wishing this season away, why not use it as a springboard into a deeper relationship with God?
Seek His face. Rediscover the power of His Word. Make room for prayer, worship and the voice of the Holy Spirit. Allow Him to develop your character, deepen your faith and prepare your heart for whatever lies ahead.
God told His people through Jeremiah that He had plans to give them hope and a future [Jeremiah 29:11]. Although that promise was originally spoken to the Israelites in exile, it reminds us of God’s faithful purposes and His heart towards His people.
Don’t waste the wilderness. Don’t despise the hidden season.
You may feel restricted, but God is not restricted. Your circumstances may have changed, but His promises have not. Keep trusting, keep growing and keep following Jesus.
The season you’re in is not the end of your story. God is still working!
