Hosting His Holy Presence

Hosting His Holy Presence

โ€œWho may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in His holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heartโ€ฆโ€ โ€” Psalm 24:3โ€“4

To be in Godโ€™s presence is the greatest of joys. Itโ€™s the atmosphere of heavenโ€”God with us. Yet His presence is also holy, weighty, and sensitive. It can be welcomed or grieved, hosted or ignored. As worshippers, and especially as leaders, we must learn to carry Godโ€™s presence with reverence.

In 1 Samuel 4, Israel foolishly trusted in the Arkโ€”a symbol of Godโ€™s presenceโ€”instead of in God Himself. They said, โ€œIt will save us,โ€ and the result was devastating. Godโ€™s presence is not a formula or a prop. When we rely more on โ€œthe Itโ€ than โ€œthe Himโ€โ€”on songs, systems, or styles rather than on intimacyโ€”we risk losing the very glory we seek.

Later, in 1 Samuel 5, the Ark was placed beside false gods in a pagan temple. God toppled them. He wonโ€™t share space with idolsโ€”whether theyโ€™re made of wood or ego. Worship ministry must never become about performance or personality. As one leader once heard God say, โ€œItโ€™s not your meetingโ€”itโ€™s mine.โ€

Then, in 1 Samuel 6, men died for lifting the Arkโ€™s lid. They had removed the mercy seatโ€”the covering of blood between Godโ€™s glory and the law. Without the blood, holiness consumes. This is a stark reminder: we approach God only through the sacrifice of Jesus. Without the cross, worship becomes dangerous.

King David later learned this the hard way in 1 Chronicles 13. He tried to transport the Ark using worldly methodsโ€”a cart instead of priestly shouldersโ€”and tragedy struck. Worship must follow Godโ€™s ways, not cultureโ€™s trends.

To carry Godโ€™s presence is a fearful, beautiful calling. It requires humility, holiness, and hunger. Lay down the โ€œIts.โ€ Embrace the Him. Honour His presenceโ€”and let His glory fill the house.

Worship is not a show. Itโ€™s a sanctuary.

Today, I welcome the Holy Spirit into every area of my lifeโ€”into my thoughts, my decisions, my home, my work, and my worship. I choose not to rush through moments but to make room for Him, to be still and know He is God (Psalm 46:10).

I declare that my heart is an altar, my life a sanctuary, and my worship an invitation for the King of Glory to dwell within. Like Moses, I say, โ€œIf Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from hereโ€ (Exodus 33:15). I desire to carry His presence with reverence, intimacy, and joy.
