God’s Jigsaw

“The body is not made up of one part but of many.” 1 Corinthians 12:14

I used to love doing jigsaws with my Dad, even if it took days to complete a 1000 piece jigsaw, it was always so satisfying to slot that last piece into place to complete the picture.

However, when a piece went missing it was so frustrating and disappointing to discover the therapeutic hours I’d spent putting this masterpiece together was spoilt by one lost piece. The jigsaw was incomplete and without that last piece the picture was lacking its true beauty.

Life can feel like a jigsaw. A picture bigger than ourselves where we’re all connected and each of us has an important part to play.

You may feel that your own life is small and insignificant. Perhaps you struggle to know where you fit in, or perhaps you feel unqualified. You’re not sure where you belong or you fear rejection.

In a jigsaw every piece matters and it’s the same in the body of Christ.

“I want you to think about how all this makes you more significant, not less. A body isn’t just a single part blown up into something huge. It’s all the different-but-similar parts arranged and functioning together. As it is, we see that God has carefully placed each part of the body right where he wanted it….The way God designed our bodies is a model for understanding our lives together as a church: every part dependent on every other part, the parts we mention and the parts we don’t, the parts we see and the parts we don’t. If one part hurts, every other part is involved in the hurt, and in the healing. If one part flourishes, every other part enters into the exuberance.” 1 Corinthians 12:14, 25-26 MSG

God has designed us to work as a team. He graces us with various gifts to meet the needs in other people.

I know my own giftings are very limited when I think about the calling on my life, but God has connected me with people who fill those gaps lacking in me and vice versa.

I want to encourage you to step out into the anointing God’s placed on your life because you may be the missing gap that fills a void in a church, home group or ministry. Romans 12 says,

“In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.” Romans 12:6-8 NLT

We have a responsibility to use what God has given us. Even if we feel unqualified, incapable, scared or limited. It’s when we step out and obey His voice that God anoints us enabling and gifting us to serve the body of Christ.

You may be the answer to someone else’s prayers. It could be your words of encouragement which saves someone’s life, or your act of kindness or hospitality which draws people to Jesus. Your hands laid on the sick, your faith engaging in their prayers. Your music which sets people free, your song which releases heaven to earth.

If you don’t step into place, we all miss out on the gift God’s placed inside of you.

We are all part of God’s jigsaw. God connects us and He guides us into place. We just have to obey.

I am a vital member of the Body of Christ. “For the body is not one member, but many” (1 Corinthians 12:14). I am not insignificant—I am intentionally placed and divinely gifted for God’s purposes. I reject comparison and competition. I declare that every part of the body matters, including mine. I will not underestimate my role, nor will I overstep it—I function in my grace, for God has uniquely anointed me.

I choose unity over division, contribution over complacency, and purpose over passivity. I am not just in the Body of Christ—I am active, equipped, and essential to the move of God. In Jesus’ name, I declare: I am gifted. I am needed. I am called. I am part of something greater.
