God is Obsessed With You

“Every single moment you are thinking of me! How precious and wonderful to consider that you cherish me constantly in your every thought! O God, your desires toward me are more than the grains of sand on every shore!” Psalm 139:17–18 (TPT)

You know when you become completely captivated by something? Your mind keeps returning to it. You talk about it, dream about it and find yourself thinking about it when you’re supposed to be thinking about something else!

My son has gone through seasons of this—whether it’s a new video game or a favourite toy—and suddenly it’s all he wants to talk about. Love can do the same thing.

When we fall deeply in love, that person occupies our thoughts. We want to spend time with them, hear their voice and discover more about them. Our hearts become captivated.

That’s how God feels about you. He is obsessed with you.

The Bible tells us,

“He loved us long before we loved him.” 1 John 4:10.

Think about that.

Before you ever searched for God, God was searching for you. Before you ever loved Him, He loved you. Before you understood grace, grace was reaching towards you.

Romans 5:8 says,

“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (NLT).

The cross wasn’t God’s reluctant response to humanity. The cross was the revelation of His love.

God knew everything about you—your failures, weaknesses, mistakes and mess—and He still chose to pursue you.

Psalm 139 gives us an astonishing glimpse into the mind of God. David declares that God’s thoughts towards him are more numerous than the sand.

“Every single moment you are thinking of me! How precious and wonderful to consider that you cherish me constantly in your every thought! O God, your desires toward me are more than the grains of sand on every shore!” Psalm 139:17 (TPT).

You couldn’t count them.
You couldn’t measure them.
You couldn’t outrun them.

And Romans 8 takes us even deeper:

“I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, angels nor demons, our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love” (Romans 8:38, NLT).

Nothing.
Not your past.
Not your failure.
Not your weakness.
Not your worst day.

Nothing can separate you from the love God has demonstrated to you in Christ.

Scripture even describes God’s people as “the apple of his eye” (Zechariah 2:8, NIV), and Isaiah speaks of His people as a royal crown in His hand (Isaiah 62:3).

You are not an inconvenience to God.
You are not tolerated by God.
Through Christ, you are loved, pursued, adopted and treasured.

But there is another question we need to ask.

What are you obsessed with?

What occupies your thoughts when you have nothing else to think about?
What do you constantly talk about?
What captures your attention?
What consumes your heart?

Jesus said,

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21, NIV).

The world is constantly competing for our attention. Notifications, entertainment, ambition, possessions, comparison and endless distractions can slowly capture the affection that belongs to God.

But we were created for something greater. We were created for union and communion with God.

The psalmist cries,

“Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me” (Psalm 42:7, NIV).

There is something deep within the human spirit that longs for something only God can satisfy. So today, turn your eyes towards Jesus.

Magnify Him.
Talk to Him.
Worship Him.
Spend time in His presence.
Let His Word fill your mind and His Spirit fill your heart.

Don’t simply receive the revelation that God loves you—respond by allowing your heart to fall increasingly in love with Him. The One who has pursued you with relentless love is worthy of your whole heart.

Be captivated by Jesus.

Believe & Confess Meditation & Declaration

I am deeply loved by God, because He loved me before I ever loved Him (1 John 4:10). God demonstrated His love for me by sending Christ to die for me while I was still a sinner (Romans 5:8). I am fearfully and wonderfully made, and God’s thoughts towards me are precious and beyond number (Psalm 139:14, 17–18). Nothing in all creation can separate me from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:38–39). I set my heart on things above and fix my attention on Jesus rather than being consumed by the distractions of this world (Colossians 3:1–2; Hebrews 12:2). My soul longs for God, and I choose to draw near to Him, knowing that when I draw near to Him, He draws near to me (Psalm 42:1–2; James 4:8).
