God Is Not Against You

Nothing weakens faith faster than the sneaking feeling that God is somehow against you. You’re going to have days when it feels like everyone is lined up on the other side of the room — the boss at work, friends who don’t understand, even your own family. Some days nothing works. Your body feels tired, your mind feels cluttered, and your past seems to shout louder than your future. Even your own frailties can feel like evidence stacked against you.

In those moments, it’s easy to let a dangerous thought creep in: What if God is against me too? After all, we know our imperfections better than anyone. We disappoint ourselves regularly — so surely God must be disappointed as well… right?

The Gospel Changes Everything

This is where Romans 5:1 becomes a lifeline. It reveals a truth that stabilises the soul: God is for you. Not cautiously. Not conditionally. Completely.

God is not for you because of your performance, your wisdom, your appearance, or your spiritual track record. He is for you because of the blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, cancelling your sin and positioning you in Christ Jesus before the Father (Romans 5:8; Colossians 1:20). His favour rests on you because of His love for you — not the strength of your love for Him (1 John 4:10).

You are standing on rock-solid ground. Even when we are faithless, He remains faithful (2 Timothy 2:13).

Justified — Just As If I’d Never Sinned

Paul says, “Since we have been justified…” That word justified carries breathtaking meaning — just as if I’d never sinned. Completely acquitted. Fully accepted. And the result? “We have peace with God” (Romans 5:1). Not peace from God, but peace with God.

You are not God’s disappointment — you are His friend (John 15:15). He is not flinching when He looks at you. He loves you unflinchingly.

Faith Is How We Live in That Peace

There’s one more vital phrase in this verse: “justified through faith.” Faith is how we enjoy this peace daily. Faith means I wrap my hopes around Him. I refuse pity parties. I silence the voice that says, “God doesn’t love me” or “I’m no good.”

To step into faith and stay in faith, I worship when I feel woeful (Habakkuk 3:17–18). I give thanks when I feel low (1 Thessalonians 5:18). I wash my mind in the Word of God (Ephesians 5:26). I lift my eyes and challenge the part of me that wants to cower. Like David, I speak to my own soul: “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits” (Psalm 103:2).

C’mon — God is for you, even if it feels like everyone else is against you. Rise up in joy. Pray like a warrior. Believe like a saint. And the peace of God — and everything that flows from Him — will flood your life (Philippians 4:7).

Faith leads to justification. Justification releases peace with God.
Live by faith today, and walk under the shelter of His presence wherever you go (Psalm 91:1). He is for you — and as you trust Him, you will experience that reality today.

I declare that I have been justified through faith and I now have peace with God through my Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1). I confess that God is for me and not against me, because He did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for me (Romans 8:31–32). I believe that even when I feel weak or faithless, God remains faithful to me (2 Timothy 2:13). I declare that I am fully forgiven and cleansed by the blood of Jesus, standing righteous before God (Colossians 1:22). I confess that the peace of God guards my heart and mind as I trust Him today (Philippians 4:7). I believe that I live and walk in the favour and steadfast love of the Lord all the days of my life (Psalm 23:6).
