Following the Presence into New Days
โWhen you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your Godโฆ you are to move out from your positions and follow it. Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before.โ
Joshua 3:3โ4
Joshua told the people, โYouโve never been this way before.โ They were standing on the brink of promise, but also uncertainty. A whole generation had known wilderness routinesโmanna every morning, pillars of cloud and fire guiding them. But now, the wilderness was behind them and the Jordan stood before them. How would they cross? What would life look like on the other side? Godโs instruction was simple: watch the arkโฆ follow the presenceโฆ and keep a reverent distance.
The ark represented the presence of God. Before strategies, meetings, plans, or opinions, Godโs people were commanded to follow His presence. Not their instincts, not their experience, not their preferences. Their future wasnโt in their familiarity, it was in His leading.
We live in a world changing faster than we can catch our breath. New technologies, new challenges, global shaking, cultural shiftsโtruly we have โnever been this way before.โ And if weโre honest, sometimes we default to what we know. We rely on yesterdayโs methods, yesterdayโs miracles, yesterdayโs comfort. But friend, yesterdayโs manna will not feed you in todayโs territory. Yesterdayโs cloud will not guide you through tomorrowโs calling.
Just as Jesus said, โThe Son can do nothing by Himselfโฆ He only does what He sees His Father doingโ (John 5:19). Thatโs our pattern. We donโt run ahead of God. We donโt build what heaven hasnโt initiated. We echo heaven. We move when He moves. We follow the presence.
Are you facing a new season? A new challenge? A new calling? Donโt rush. Donโt panic. Donโt lean on yesterdayโs confidence. Fix your eyes on Him. Saturate yourself in worship. Tune your heart to His whisper. Let His Word shape your steps. When He advances, advance. When He pauses, pause.
The presence of God doesnโt just point the wayโit makes the way. The priests stepped into the Jordan holding the ark, and only then did the waters part. Miracles follow obedience. Breakthrough follows presence.
You donโt need to have been this way beforeโyou just need to follow the One who has.
Today, take time to seek His presence. Ask, โFather, what are You doing?โ And when you see Him moveโfollow. New ground, new grace, new glory awaits on the other side of obedience. He will lead you. And you will know which way to go.

I choose to live attentively, responding to what the Father is doing. Just as Jesus said, โThe Son can do nothing by Himself; He can do only what He sees His Father doingโ (John 5:19). I will not act out of striving, impulse, or fear, but out of obedience and trust. I wait on the Lord, watch for His leading, and move in step with His Spirit. โIn all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straightโ (Proverbs 3:6).
I declare that God is actively at work around me, and He invites me to join Him. My ears are open to hear His voice, my eyes are open to see His hand, and my heart is ready to obey. โWhether you turn to the right or to the left, you will hear a voice behind you, saying, โThis is the way; walk in itโโ (Isaiah 30:21).
