Entwined In The Waiting

“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles.” — Isaiah 40:31

I hate waiting. Whether it’s waiting for a ride home, a parcel delivery, or the countdown to a holiday, I’ve never considered myself particularly good at it. We live in a generation where almost everything arrives instantly. Food in minutes. Deliveries within hours. Messages answered immediately. In fact, if someone doesn’t reply quickly enough, we often assume something is wrong.

Yet God does not seem to be in the same hurry that we are.

Have you noticed that? So often, Heaven’s timetable feels slower than ours. We pray, believe, stand in faith… and then wait. And wait some more. But perhaps the waiting seasons of life are not punishment; perhaps they are preparation.

Lamentations says, “The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord” (Lamentations 3:25-26). There is something deeply powerful about waiting with trust instead of striving with anxiety.

What fascinated me recently is that the Hebrew word for “wait” is qavah, which carries the idea of entwining together, like strands woven tightly into a rope. Biblical waiting is not passive resignation; it is active intimacy. It is drawing close enough to God that your heart becomes entwined with His.

Isaiah writes, “Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts” (Isaiah 26:8). In other words, the waiting is not wasted when it draws us deeper into His presence.

Sometimes we think the breakthrough is the reward. But often, intimacy with Jesus is the greater reward.

Isaiah 40:31 promises, “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.” Notice it does not say they lose strength—it says they gain it. Waiting on God renews us, steadies us, purifies our motives, and shapes our character. Romans 5 reminds us that “patient endurance produces character, and character produces hope” (Romans 5:4).

So whatever you are waiting for today—a healing, a breakthrough, an answer, a prodigal returning home, a door to open—trust Him. God is never late. He knows exactly what He is doing. And if Heaven is not panicking, neither should we.

Use this season not merely to wait for God’s hand, but to seek His heart.

I declare that as I wait upon the Lord, He renews my strength and causes me to rise above weariness and fear (Isaiah 40:31). My heart is entwined with God’s heart, and His presence sustains me in every season (Isaiah 26:8). The Lord is good to me as I wait expectantly and seek Him diligently (Lamentations 3:25). I trust God’s timing because His plans for me are good and full of hope (Jeremiah 29:11). Patient endurance is producing godly character and unshakable hope within me through the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:4-5). I will rest in the faithfulness of God, knowing that He makes all things beautiful in His perfect time (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
