Ending A Season Of Sadness

Ending A Season Of Sadness

โ€œBy the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion.โ€
โ€ญโ€ญPsalmsโ€ฌ โ€ญ137โ€ฌ:โ€ญ1โ€ฌ โ€ญNIVUKโ€ฌโ€ฌ

Grief is a part of life. Most obviously we lose loved ones to death. But grief can happen when we lose anything; a job, unexpectedly poor exam results, a house or home. Any loss can trigger grief. Grief is a necessary way we humans process severe losses, and itโ€™s healthiest to give time to the process and its various stages: shock, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance. Israel sat by Babylonโ€™s rivers and wept for Zion โ€” for home, for what was lost, for what once was. We know those moments.

But what happens when sadness lingers? When mourning becomes a permanent tone in the soul? The Bible is full of remedies for despair and heaviness. We are called to put on joy, to count our blessings, to cast all our cares on Him. Weโ€™re commanded to refuse the worldโ€™s anxieties, to build our faith and hope through meditating on Scripture, to praise and rejoice in Him.

To someone carrying a sad demeanor, this can seem flippant, unreal, even cruel. After trauma, we can wear grief like a garment. But sometimes you literally have to put on joy like a garment โ€” a garment of praise. Start singing. Praising. Smiling. It releases healing chemicals in your body! Slowly your confidence rises. Hope returns. Your vision clears. You start to believe again: God is good, life is worth living, and your story is far from over.

Lift your eyes to your good Father. He has no plans to harm you. Yes, we go through valleys, but He only has your progress in mind. And He gives us His great Helper โ€” the oil of joy, the Holy Spirit! Be filled again. Take time to soak in His presence, to rest, to drink deeply. The Spirit literally changes the inner atmosphere. He is the Spirit of joy, hope, and holy lightness โ€” the oil of joy for the spirit of despair.

Lift your eyes. Be flooded with hope-filled Scripture. Put on praise. Receive the oil of joy. And the sadness will fade, giving way to a new season in your heart and home.

Hear Him calling:

โ€œSee! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come.โ€ (Song of Songs 2:11โ€“12)

And again:

โ€œSing, O barren womanโ€ฆโ€ (Isaiah 54:1)

Your season of sorrow is ending. The Spiritโ€™s song is rising in your land. A new day is here. Put on joy โ€” and step into it.

Today, I choose hope again. I receive joy little by little. I trust God with my healing. I declare that grief will not have the final word over my life. Though I have walked through sorrow and tears, I trust the God who restores joy and renews hope. โ€œWeeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morningโ€ (Psalm 30:5).

I believe that the Lord is close to me in my brokenness. โ€œThe Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spiritโ€ (Psalm 34:18). He has seen every tear, and none have been wasted. I declare that God is gently turning my mourning into joy. โ€œYou have turned my mourning into dancingโ€ (Psalm 30:11). Though the season of grief has been real, it will not define my future.

Believe & Confess For TEENS

In 2019, in a vision I saw an army rising up out of the Church, but it wasnโ€™t an army of adults, it was an army of youth, 18 years and younger. They looked strong and fearless, ready for battle and eager to win.

I want this book to empower you and help you to delve deeper into the scriptures. To know what Godโ€™s Word says about you so when you are faced with issues of identity, you look at what Godโ€™s Word says about you and not your Instagram feed.
