Drink Deeply Of God’s Kindness

Drink Deeply Of God’s Kindness

“Drink deeply of God’s pure kindness” 2 Peter 2:2 (The Message)

1 John 4:18 tells us “there is no fear in love” and that “He who fears has not been made perfect in love.”

The existence (or not) of fear is the barometer of our level of acceptance of God’s Love. The more you realise the power of His love and how it is directed at your life personally, the less you will fear.

We may find it easy to believe in a theoretical God of love. But that will count little unless we are completely convinced that His love is for us, personally.

In order for His love to land in your life, let me work through one thought with you. Answer this question for me, “Why do you exist?”

I know you are not an accident. Even if your parents did not “plan you,” God is so infinitely great that He sits outside of time (as well as within it!), so He sees the end from the beginning, and has had you in mind before the world began. You are no mistake – you were birthed with a purpose! If in doubt, read Psalm 139 right now.

So if you are not an accident, then still I ask, why are you here? Does God need your help? Is He some frustrated powerless divine figure, trying to get men to join His plan of looking after the planet? Of course not!

God is all-powerful, self-sufficient, all-knowing and omni-present. He does not need you and I to get a thing done, ever!

So, is it that God wants something or someone to take His wrath out upon? No! He IS love!

Having exhausted all possible explanations for our existence, I am left with one, life-changing conclusion: God made you for one reason, and one reason alone – He made you to love you.

The only reason we exist is for our loving Father to pour out His love upon us! He wants to enjoy us, to fellowship with us, to dance with us and walk with us. Half the time I don’t even like myself, but He absolutely adores me! When we understand this, our lives are utterly transformed.

So, when your thoughts are resistant to the overwhelming ocean of God’s grace, take all the guilty, religious, pseudo-holy thoughts captive. Push beyond dull religion and take one extra dangerous step to dive into the depth of His love by saying to yourself; “No, today, I am going to believe He completely adores me. Like a Father to a Son, I am the apple of His eye. His love is not dependent on my actions, but on my lineage. I am His child – and He unconditionally loves me.”

Nothing will cause you to live fearlessly, righteously, uncompromisingly, like drinking deeply of God’s kindness. It’s the holiest thing you could do!

Action Point: Take some moments to meditate on the love of God for you while reading Psalm 139.

God’s love for me is perfect, unconditional, and never-ending. “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love” (Psalm 103:8). His kindness pursues me daily, and His mercy meets me in every moment. “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life” (Psalm 23:6).

I am not forgotten, not forsaken, and never alone. I am the beloved of the Lord. “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” (1 John 3:1).
