By My Spirit

By My Spirit

โ€œHe said to me, โ€˜Son of man, stand up on your feet and I will speak to you.โ€™ As he spoke, the Spirit came into me and raised me to my feet, and I heard him speaking to me.โ€

(Ezekiel 2:1โ€“2, NIVUK)

The Kind of Obedience Heaven Loves

There is a beautiful, subtle truth in the Christian life that can quietly transform the way we walk with God. Itโ€™s easy to assume that following Jesus is simply a system of commands and compliance: God speaks, we obey; rules are given, we follow; effort is applied, blessings are received.

Thatโ€™s how much of life works. Obey the speed limit, avoid the fine. Follow school rules, succeed in class. Work hard, earn results.

But biblical obedience is not powered by willpower alone. It flows from faith and is sustained by the Spirit.

The Old Testament proves something humbling: humanity could not keep Godโ€™s commands by sheer determination. Even the most devoted people failed. Paul captures the tension perfectly when he describes doing the very things he doesnโ€™t want to do and failing to do the things he longs to do (Romans 7:15โ€“19). If obedience depended purely on human effort, we would all fall short โ€” constantly.

So there must be something deeper.

And Ezekiel gives us a stunning glimpse of it.

God tells the prophet, โ€œStand up.โ€ Then, in the very next breath, the Spirit lifts him to his feet. God commands, and God empowers. Heaven announces what it is about to do in a human life.

This is the essence of Spirit-filled Christianity.

God doesnโ€™t merely tell you what to do โ€” He releases the grace to do it.

When God whispers, โ€œPray more,โ€ He is not accusing you of weakness; He is revealing an invitation and a new supply of power. When He says, โ€œShare your faith,โ€ He is not burdening you with pressure; He is announcing that fresh courage and supernatural boldness are available. โ€œNot by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,โ€ says the Lord (Zechariah 4:6).

From Copycat Christianity to Calling

I remember hearing a hero of faith describe praying eight hours a day for months. My heart burned with admiration. โ€œIf I could do that,โ€ I thought, โ€œIโ€™d be a real man of God.โ€

So I tried.

I woke up early. I pushed myself. I forced the discipline. And by 6 a.m., I was snoring again. The next day was worse. I felt guilty, weak, and spiritually inadequate. I was trying to live someone elseโ€™s calling with my own strength.

It was copycat Christianity โ€” not a personal walk with Jesus, but an ideal I had constructed in my mind.

Then, months later, God swept through the college in a way I can barely describe. His presence lifted me into a season where it was easier to pray than not to. Hours passed effortlessly. Prayer became delight, not duty. God carried me into depths I could never have reached through effort alone.

That season built a foundation of prayer in my life that has never left me. Even now, waves of deep, sustained prayer return again and again โ€” not because I force them, but because God initiates them.

He told me to stand up.

Then He stood me up.

And this is the invitation for you today: stop striving to obey God in your own strength. Listen more closely to what He is actually saying to you. When He speaks, He is not demanding performance โ€” He is releasing power. Your calling is not sustained by effort; it is sustained by intimacy. And every command from heaven carries the grace of heaven.

Believe & Confess Meditation & Declaration

I am raised by the Spirit of God into the purposes He speaks over my life (Ezekiel 2:1โ€“2). I walk in obedience that flows from faith, not fear (Romans 1:17). I am empowered by the Spirit, not limited by human strength (Zechariah 4:6). I delight in Godโ€™s will because He works in me both to will and to act (Philippians 2:13). I can do what God calls me to do because His grace is sufficient for me (2 Corinthians 12:9). I walk in step with the Spirit and bear the fruit of His life within me (Galatians 5:16, 22โ€“23).
