Your Wounds Are Pivot Points
โHave I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.โ
โ Joshua 1:9 (NIVUK)
At some stage in life, every one of us picks up wounds. Tough things happen. Losses come that we didnโt choose. Words are spoken that cut deeper than we expected. Jobs disappear. Reputations are questioned. Grief knocks at our door as we say goodbye to people we love. Sometimes our bodies and our minds seem to let us down. Sometimes churches do. Sometimes the brokenness of the world crashes into our personal story, and weโre left trying to reconcile what God allows with what we hoped for. Even ageing itself can feel like a slow, quiet wounding as frailty tries to seep in.
Wounds, whether sudden or slow, often become pivot points in our story. They force a pause. Reflection becomes necessary. In the first moments of pain, reaction is unavoidable. Pain demands a response from our nervous system, our emotions, our survival instincts. And thatโs okay.
But once the initial shock begins to settle, we are given something powerful: a choice. We get to move from reacting to responding.
I deeply admire people whose first reactions are healthy, wise, and faith-filled. Maybe theyโve walked this road before. Maybe theyโve learned how to steward pain well. Me? I get it wrong more often than Iโd like to admitโand if that encourages you, good. But even after a poor reaction, you still get to choose your response.
With Godโs help, you can rewrite the story at the pivot point.
Pain can turn us inward toward pity, bitterness and fear, or forward into power and purpose. Scripture never suggests that wounds are meant to shrink us. They are meant to shape us.
Live Bold, Even When You Limp
Our wounds should always turn us toward bold, confident livingโnot away from it. Confidence is faith in action. It oils the wheels of obedience, purpose, and love. God never intended your wounds to steal your confidence, only to soften your heart. Let them make you humbler, more forgiving, wiser, more compassionate, quicker to extend mercy and comfort to others. But donโt cower. Donโt stop living.
Liveโeven if you live with a limp.
Love itself requires courage. You cannot truly love while paralysed by fear. Discernment may increase after betrayal, but trust must still exist. Risk must still be taken. Passion must still burn. Trauma can steal pride, ego, self-reliance, and hardnessโand thatโs a good thing. But confidence must rise again, rooted not in self, but in God.
Life in the Kingdom cannot be entered timidly. It requires faith, boldness, courage, trust, passion, and a deep awareness of how valued you are. This is the great gospel story: trauma turned into triumph. Let God do it again in you.
Believe & Confess Meditation & Declaration
I am strong and courageous because the Lord my God is with me wherever I go (Joshua 1:9). I do not fear or become discouraged, for God is for me and walks with me through every season (Joshua 1:9; Romans 8:31). What the enemy meant for harm, God is turning for my good and purpose (Genesis 50:20). Even when I am weak, Christโs strength is perfected in me (2 Corinthians 12:9). I walk by faith and not by sight, trusting God to lead me boldly forward (2 Corinthians 5:7). I live courageously, rooted in love, because God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7).
