The Lord is Calling You
โNow Samuel did not yet know the Lord: the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.โ
โ 1 Samuel 3:7 (NIVUK)
Samuel was tucked into the house of God, sleeping near the ark, ministering in holy spacesโฆ yet he didnโt know the Lordโs voice. Imagine that โ living close to sacred things, yet still learning to hear the One behind them. The nation was spiritually dull, Eliโs sons were drowning in corruption, and into that murky atmosphere came a whisper from heaven. Samuel heard it โ but mistook it. Three times he ran to Eli before the elderly priest realised: โThe Lord is calling you.โ And the young boy replied, โSpeak, Lord, for your servant is listening.โ
There it is โ the first breath of revelation. The voice of God breaks into a heart eager to listen.
Many say, โI donโt hear God.โ But so often, itโs not that God is silentโฆ itโs that His voice is still unfamiliar, like Samuel before that night. His whispers mingle among your own thoughts, nudges, intuitions, and convictions โ and until they are discerned, they feel like a holy mumble, a blurred whisper in the noise.
Jesus warned of soil where thorns grow โ the worries, pressures, anxieties, and constant noise of life choking out the seed. And in our age of endless alerts, expectations, and emotional hurry, itโs no wonder many struggle to hear the still, small voice. But hereโs a precious truth: if Christ lives in you, His mind is already stirring in your soul. His wisdom is not distant โ it rises within you like gentle waves brushing the shore of your heart.
Learning to hear is not straining for a thunderbolt โ itโs training the ear to recognise the breeze.
It is panning for gold. Yes, there is dirt โ our emotions, fears, fantasies, and the enemyโs lies. But there is gold โ Godโs whisper, shimmering with heavenโs peace. Discernment washes away the sand until only glory remains.
A beloved mentor once taught me a simple practice: sit quietly with a pen, breathe, and write what you think God might say. Donโt force it. Just listen and let His heart whisper to yours. Scripture becomes the tuning fork for your soul. Over time, the voice becomes clearer, the gold brighter. That practice led me into profound encounters โ whispers, wisdom, prophecy, moments where heaven felt close enough to touch.
Not infallible โ like all skills, it grows with humility and testing. But oh, how it awakens the soul.
Adam and Eve heard God โwalking in the cool of the day.โ How beautiful โ God was not merely a command, but a companion. And He still walks, still whispers, still calls your name in the quiet.
So today, slow down. Paper. Pen. Silence.
โSpeak, Lord, your servant is listening.โ
And you may find โ to know His voiceโฆ is to know Him.

I declare that I hear the voice of God, and I know His leading. โMy sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Meโ (John 10:27). My heart is attentive, my spirit is receptive, and my life is aligned to His truth. I declare that God speaks clearly through His Word, by His Spirit, and with wisdom and peace. โWhether you turn to the right or to the left, you will hear a voice behind you, saying, โThis is the way; walk in itโโ (Isaiah 30:21).
I quiet every other voice of fear, confusion, and distraction. I choose stillness before the Lord so I may discern His guidance. โBe still, and know that I am Godโ (Psalm 46:10).
