Share The Load
โMosesโ father-in-law replied, โWhat you are doing is not good. You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it aloneโฆโโ
โ Exodus 18:17โ22 NIVUK
Moses was a great leaderโbut even great leaders can make great mistakes. He was doing everything himself. Every complaint, every dispute, every decision came to him. It probably felt virtuousโhe was serving, working hard, doing it for God. But Jethro saw something Moses didnโt: he was wearing himself out.
Thatโs a warning we all need to hear. You canโt do it all. Whether itโs ministry, family, or business, God never intended you to carry the load alone. Team is Godโs plan. Share is Godโs plan. When God created Adam, He said, โIt is not good for man to be alone.โ (Genesis 2:18). The principle was true then, and itโs true nowโyou need help too!
Sometimes the help isnโt obvious, so we pray for it. But other times, like Moses, the help is standing right in front of usโweโve just fallen into a pattern of doing it all for everyone. Parents do this too: they tidy every mess, solve every problem, and then wonder why theyโve raised lazy kids with no confidence! One wise parent said, โNever do anything for your child that they can do for themselves.โ Why? Because when you do, you rob them of responsibility, maturity, and purpose.
The same is true in the church. Pastors burn out trying to do everything, while members sit back and spectate. But the Bible doesnโt call pastors to entertain Christiansโit calls them to equip disciples! (Ephesians 4:12). Every believer has a part to play. Some lead tens, some fifties, some hundredsโbut everyone carries something. Together, we get the job done.
Moses took Jethroโs advice. He raised up leaders, delegated responsibility, and taught others to carry the vision. The result? The load was lighter, the people were cared for, and Moses could focus on what God had truly called him to doโprayer, leadership, and intercession.
Maybe today youโre feeling exhaustedโdoing too much, for too long, with too little help. Stop and ask, โAm I trying to do it all myself?โ Godโs plan isnโt for you to be a one-person show. Itโs to build a team, share the load, and empower others to grow.
Remember this: Youโre not called to be Supermanโyouโre called to be obedient. Godโs work is best done together. So lift your eyes, look around, and ask, โWho can I raise up?โ The miracle youโre praying for might already be standing right beside youโready to help you carry the weight.
โThat will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you.โ โ Exodus 18:22

God has not designed me to carry everything by myself. I release the lie that I must do it all or hold it all together by myself. I receive Godโs wisdom to share the load, delegate well, and walk in healthy rhythms. I honour the gift of counsel, support, and shared leadership, knowing that God brings strength through wise structure and community (Exodus 18:21โ22).
I declare that from the beginning, God said, โIt is not good for the man to be aloneโ (Genesis 2:18). I was created for relationship, partnership, and mutual support. God places people around me not as a weakness, but as a blessing. Today, I choose humility over independence, wisdom over burnout, and community over isolation.
