Letting Go & Stepping Forward

Letting Go & Stepping Forward

โ€œAfter the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Mosesโ€™ assistant: โ€˜Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the River Jordan into the land I am about to give to them.โ€™โ€
Joshua 1:1โ€“2 NIVUK

When God spoke to Joshua after Mosesโ€™ death, His first words werenโ€™t a strategy, a pep talk, or a vision for conquest. They were blunt: โ€œMoses my servant is dead.โ€ Why state the obvious? Because it wasnโ€™t just a detail โ€“ it was an era change. The Moses chapter had closed. A Joshua chapter had begun. And before Joshua could lead, he had to let go.

Letting go is one of the hardest things we ever do. We cling to what we know โ€“ old routines, old ways, old roles, old successes. Familiarity feels safe. Change feels risky. Many waste years trying to resurrect a season God has already finished. We mourn the โ€œgood old days,โ€ we blame those who moved on, or we stay stuck in the transition, hoping life will rewind.

But friend, hear Godโ€™s gentle firmness: โ€œMoses is dead. Now then โ€ฆ get ready.โ€ You canโ€™t enter the new holding on to the old. God didnโ€™t design you to camp in yesterdayโ€™s grace. He has fresh manna, new mercies, and a promised land ahead. But you must accept the end of what was to embrace what can be.

Yes, the middle can feel messy โ€“ like the caterpillar in the cocoon, where life becomes mush before wings ever appear. You might not know who you are anymore. You may feel uncomfortable, under-equipped, or uncertain. Thatโ€™s okay. Transformation rarely feels tidy.

Instead of resisting change, welcome the adventure. Journal your fears. Pray your uncertainties. Say out loud, โ€œLord, I release what was, and I trust You for whatโ€™s next.โ€ Stretch into new roles, new opportunities, new relationships. Donโ€™t hunker down in the ashes of yesterday โ€“ step toward the horizon of tomorrow.

Godโ€™s promise to Joshua is His promise to you: โ€œI will give you every place where you set your footโ€ (Joshua 1:3). Not every place you remember. Every place you step.

Today, let go. Thank God for yesterday, release it with honour, and rise with courage. A new season isnโ€™t something to fear โ€“ itโ€™s something to explore. On the other side of letting go is a land flowing with purpose, promise, and possibility.

Your Moses season may be finished. But your Joshua journey has just begun. Get ready. God is leading you forward.

Today, I let go of regret, nostalgia, and resistance and I embrace growth, renewal, and transformation. I choose obedience over familiarity, faith over fear, and surrender over comfort. I will not pour new wine into old wineskins (Luke 5:37โ€“38); I allow God to renew my heart, my mindset, and my ways.

I declare that this new season requires fresh trust, fresh obedience, and fresh faith. The God who was faithful before is faithful still, and He is leading me forwardโ€”not backward. โ€œForget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!โ€ (Isaiah 43:18โ€“19). I release what was, so I can receive what God is now doing.
