How To Find Favour

How To Find Favour

โ€œMoses said to the Lord, โ€˜You have said, โ€œI know you by name and you have found favour with me.โ€ If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favour with you.โ€™โ€ โ€“ Exodus 33:12โ€“13 NIVUK

Moses had already found the favour of God. Heโ€™d stumbled into it that day in the wilderness when a bush burst into flame but wasnโ€™t consumed. From that moment, everything changed. He found the voice of God, the purpose of heaven, the power to perform miracles, and the promiseโ€”โ€œI will be with you.โ€ What an incredible encounter! But Moses understood something vital: a moment of favour wasnโ€™t enough; he wanted a lifestyle of favour!

Standing in the place of leadership and burden, Moses longed for continual divine nearness. So he prayed, โ€œTeach me Your ways, that I may continue to find favour with You.โ€ In other words: โ€œLord, I donโ€™t want to merely stumble across Your goodness by accidentโ€”I want to walk in step with it every day.โ€

Thatโ€™s a powerful prayer! Moses wasnโ€™t satisfied with one burning bush moment. He wanted to know Godโ€™s heart, to understand how heaven moves, to live continually in the flow of divine favour.

And thatโ€™s our call too. The more we understand His ways, the more we experience His grace. When we learn how God thinks, acts, and responds, we can align ourselves with His power and live in the slipstream of His goodness. But thereโ€™s a catchโ€”His ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8).

Thatโ€™s why repentanceโ€”literally, โ€œa change of mindโ€โ€”isnโ€™t a one-time event. Itโ€™s a lifestyle. Weโ€™re constantly learning to think Godโ€™s thoughts, to act by His principles, to respond with His heart.

And where do we learn His ways? In His Word and by His Spirit. The Bible is our plumblineโ€”it straightens the crooked walls of our thinking. The Holy Spirit is our teacherโ€”He writes those truths on the tablet of our hearts.

Godโ€™s ways are often countercultural: humility instead of pride, forgiveness instead of revenge, purity not just in behaviour but in thought, praise in pain, generosity in lack, love when hated.

As we follow His ways, we find His favour. So today, dig into His Word. Ask the Spirit to reveal His heart. Let Him carve His ways deep into your soulโ€”until the fire that once burned in a bush now burns steadily within you.

Today I declare that the Lord is teaching me His ways, that I may walk in truth and find favour in His sight. As Moses prayed, โ€œTeach me Your ways, that I may know You and continue to find favour with Youโ€ (Exodus 33:13), so I choose to learn from God, not lean on my own understanding.

I submit my life to the Lordโ€™s direction. He orders my steps, shapes my character, and leads me in paths that please Him. As I walk in His ways, His presence and favour rest upon me. Like Jabez, I boldly ask the Lord to bless me indeed. โ€œOh, that You would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let Your hand be with me, and keep me from harmโ€ (1 Chronicles 4:10).
