Hold Up My Hands
โAs long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Mosesโ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up โ one on one side, one on the other โ so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.โ
Exodusโฌ โญ17โฌ:โญ11โฌโโญ13โฌ โญNIVUKโฌโฌ
When Israel went into battle against the Amalekites, Moses didnโt pick up a swordโhe picked up a staff. While Joshua fought in the valley, Moses climbed a hill and raised his hands toward heaven. As long as those hands stayed raised, Israel prevailed. But when fatigue set in and his arms dropped, the tide of the battle turned.
So Aaron and Hur stepped in. They placed a stone under Moses to sit on, and each held up one of his handsโsteady until the sun went down. And with that teamwork, the battle was won.
Thereโs a powerful truth here: none of us can win lifeโs battles alone. Even great leaders like Moses grow weary. The call of God, the fight of faith, the strain of ministry, the burden of prayerโall of it can wear you down. Thatโs why you need people who will hold up your hands.
Your church lifts you up when youโre weary. Your worship team encourages you to praise when your heart feels heavy. Your pastors wash you in the hope-giving Word of God. And your friends stand beside you when life feels too much to handle. We are โone body, many partsโ (1 Corinthians 12:12), and every part is vital.
But letโs be honestโlarge church services, wonderful as they are, can only do so much. They inspire and energize, but real strength often comes from smaller circles of connection. You need three kinds of gatherings in your life:
1๏ธโฃ Gatherings for inspiration. Large congregations where the Word is preached, worship fills the air, and your faith is lifted.
2๏ธโฃ Groups for community. A circle of a dozen or so who know your name, your story, and your strugglesโwhere you can laugh, learn, and grow together.
3๏ธโฃ A circle for care. Two or three trusted friends who can hear your heart, pray with you, and give wise counsel.
If you build your life around these three layersโcongregation, community, and circleโyour hands will stay raised. Youโll find strength when youโre weary, hope when youโre low, and victory when the battle rages.
So ask yourself today: Who holds up my hands? And whose hands am I holding up? Because when we stand together, like Moses, Aaron, and Hurโvictory is never far away.

I declare that as I lift my hands to the Lord, victory is released. Just as when Moses lifted his hands and Israel prevailed, I choose to lift my heart, my worship, and my trust to God (Exodus 17:11โ13).
I acknowledge that I am not meant to fight alone. When my strength grows weary, God provides support, encouragement, and people to help hold my arms steady. Together, we stand, and together we overcome.
