He Will Uphold You

“Here is my servant, who I uphold.” Isaiah 42:1

This verse shows a wonderful insight into God’s care for Jesus, as He walked out His purpose on the earth. The Father was committed to “upholding the Son.”

And as His servants today, He is committed to upholding you and me too.

You can relax in the incredible promise today, that He will lift you up, carry you, strengthen you and bring you through. He has made it His responsibility.

Verse 4 of Isaiah 42 promises that “He will not falter nor be discouraged.”

God has even promised to stop you faltering; He’ll lift you up, so your ankle will not turn. As Psalm 91 puts it, His angels will “lift you up in their hands, so your foot will not strike the stones” Psalm 91:11-12.

You won’t even need to be discouraged if you stay close to God. Just turn to His word when discouragement looms, and His Spirit will stir afresh the confidence to keep going on.

Your success is His responsibility, more than yours!

I find the reassuring promise of God to “fulfil His purpose for me” helps me relax.

My call, my very life, was all His idea, and indeed in one very real sense, it is His responsibility to bring it about, not mine! I simply co-operate to the best of my ability, though even that ability truly comes from Him!

So how does God intervene, support and help us fulfil this divine destiny? You have to remember God isn’t just a theoretical group of principles – God is a “doer.”

Isaiah 42:16 says, “I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.”

Sometimes I forget that God is not just a comforter, a source of truth or a relief from fear or guilt – God is a DOER. “These are the things I WILL DO” He says in this wonderful promise.

Got problems? Situations that need to shift? Bills, relationships, sickness, threats, job losses or organisational difficulty? The Good News is – GOD IS A DOER! True, sometimes He does just “talk you through it” – but sometimes He actually does it all for you!

Lay your problems all before Him, pour it out, casting all your cares on Him, and you’re going to find He’ll care for you! He’ll “Make rough places smooth. Turn darkness into light.” Things actually change when we get God involved.

Money arrives in the post; sickness and pain leaves by the morning; threatening people leave; bad attitudes vanish; we get promoted instead of fired; electrical items get fixed! He does stuff!

Let Him make some incredible changes to your life, by calling Him into your situation. Let Him DO something wonderful!

Action Point: In what areas of your life do you need God’s intervention right now? List them, write them down or pray them out loud to Him daily – and trust God to do incredible things in your life.
