He Who Dwells Will Rest

“He who dwells in the secret place of the most high God, will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”  Psalm 91:1

Do you want to find true rest for your soul today? Not leisure, distraction or numbness – but actual, pure, peaceful – rest?  Then simply confess everything you know in you that is offensive to God and His word. Ask Him to help you “turn away” from it (that’s called repentance).

Acts 3:19 puts it this way, “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”

Next, receive all the grace and forgiveness bought for you through the Cross, forgiving yourself for failing too.

1 John 1:9 promises, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

Psalms 103:2-3 states, “Forget not all His benefits … who forgives all your sins.” while verse 10 says “He will not treat us as our sins deserve.”

Hebrews 8:12 ensures us, “I will remember their sins no more” while 2 Corinthians 5:19 firmly declares He is commited to “…not counting mens sins against them.”

All these verses assure you of complete and total forgiveness. You never need to bring up old sins, God has already chosen to forget them, at the very moment you confessed them!

Now you’re ready to dwell in His secret place. Simply make a choice to be completely relaxed and settled in the presence of God right now. Imagine Him in you, and you in Him.

Settle your heart in His love. Slow your thoughts down and focus on the grace of Jesus. Simply “be” in the presence of God. Don’t think of the future – simply be present, now.

Can you sense a secret place of presence inside you now? A gentle stirring of God’s grace, mercy and quiet, loving communion? A sense of peace, of approval, of safety, of quiet awe?

This is“The secret place of the Most High God.”

Dwell there, day in, day out. Return to it if you forget, night or day. Practice that presence – and you will increasingly discover a life filled with the deep breath of heaven’s rest.

You see, He who dwells in the secret place, will rest.

Action Point: Practice confessing all sin, all worry and giving all cares to God. Then receive His forgiveness and forgive yourself too. Then be quiet in His presence, thanking Him for His grace and asking Him to fill you with His Spirit.

I confess all my sin, every hidden thing, every wrong thought, word, or action. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). I do not hide—I bring it all to the light.

I lay down every worry, fear, and burden at His feet. “Cast all your cares on Him, because He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). I release what I cannot carry and surrender what I cannot control. My heart is not made to hold the weight—He is.

I receive His forgiveness freely, fully, and completely. Because of the cross, I am cleansed, restored, and made new. “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). I forgive myself, because God has forgiven me.
