He is Fighting For You
โOn the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel: โSun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.โ So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!โ
โ Joshua 10:12โ14 NIVUK
There are moments in Scripture that simply take your breath awayโand this is one of them. This verse represents one of the greatest miracles in the Bible! The pausing of the spinning of the planet to allow Joshuaโs army to win a battle is a mind-blowing wonder. God held time still. He suspended the natural order. And He did it all to help His people win.
And He would do it all again for you.
During a difficult season of my own, God spoke to me in a way that still makes me smile. I had a dream that I was about to fight Mike Tyson in a boxing ringโalready a terrifying thought! But strangely, I was also a journalist covering the pre-fight build-up, typing away on an old typewriter. As I worked, I suddenly realised I couldnโt find the โiโ on the keyboard. I searched everywhereโno โiโ anywhere.
In the dream, a voice spoke:
โItโs OK, Jarrod. There is no โiโ in fight.โ
Now, I know full well that spelling doesnโt check out!
But when I woke up, I knewโit was a God dream.
God was saying, โThere is no โIโ in this fight.โ
The battle I was facing was not mine. It was His.
And truly, through that whole season, God fought for me. I held my peace while He held planets in place for the outcome He desired and designed. He was aligning circumstances, shifting atmospheres, and pushing back darkness in ways I couldnโt see. Just as He fought for Israel, He was fighting for me.
And He is fighting for you too.
You donโt win battles in your own strength. You win because God steps onto your battlefield. You win because He commands the sun to stand still. You win because the Lord of heaven and earth says, โThis one is mine.โ
Let God fight for you.
Let Him spin planets into place for you.
Let Him do more than you can ask or imagine.
He is workingโeven when you cannot see it.

I declare that the Lord Himself fights for me. I will not strive in my own strength or rely on my own understanding. โThe Lord will fight for you; you need only to be stillโ (Exodus 14:14). I lay down fear, control, and self-reliance, and I place my trust in the God who created the heavens and holds all things together (Psalm 147:4; Colossians 1:17). Nothing is too difficult for Him.
I will stand firm and watch the Lord bring victory. The same God who caused the sun to stand still still fights for His people today (Joshua 10:12โ14). His power has not diminished, and His promises have not failed. Today, I rest in holy confidence: The battle belongs to the Lord. The victory is His. And He is fighting for meโnow and always (2 Chronicles 20:15).
