Faltering Lips and Mighty Deeds

Faltering Lips and Mighty Deeds

โ€œBut Moses said to the Lord, โ€˜If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips?โ€™โ€

Exodusโ€ฌ โ€ญ6โ€ฌ:โ€ญ12โ€ฌ โ€ญNIVUKโ€ฌโ€ฌ

Itโ€™s funny how different people can see you. In Exodus, Moses says, โ€œI speak with faltering lips.โ€ Yet in Acts 7:22, the Bible says, โ€œMoses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was mighty in words and deeds.โ€ So which one is true? The answer isโ€”both. Moses felt weak, but God saw strength.

There are some things we think about ourselves that are, at best, exaggerated, and at worst, simply not true. Weโ€™ve all got those inner narratives that whisper: โ€œYouโ€™re not good enoughโ€ฆ Youโ€™ve missed your momentโ€ฆ You donโ€™t have what it takes.โ€ Those lies fence us in, hold us back, and shape our destiny if we let them. They become like invisible chainsโ€”familiar, comfortable evenโ€”but deadly to our calling.

Thatโ€™s why you need open, honest conversations with good, godly friendsโ€”people who truly know you and have your best interests at heart. (And be careful! Donโ€™t bare your soul to envious pseudo-friendsโ€”theyโ€™ll use your vulnerability as ammunition.) You need voices of truth, love, and wisdom speaking into your life. Most of all, you need Godโ€™s Word to confront the lies.

Satanโ€™s entire kingdom thrives on half-truths. โ€œDid God really say?โ€ the serpent hissed in Eden, twisting truth into poison. He still does it today. I wonderโ€”what lies are you believing about you right now? Too old? Too young? Too inexperienced? Too broken? Too late? Too much of a failure?

Even if some of it is half true, rememberโ€”God delights in using what the world discards. He chooses the lowly, the foolish, the โ€œare-nots.โ€ He rides on stumbling colts! He blesses faltering lips!

And hereโ€™s the amazing part: God obsesses over your weaknesses far less than you do. Youโ€™re fixated on your flaws; Heโ€™s focused on your future. Paul, the great apostle, was given a โ€œthorn in the fleshโ€ not because he was weak, but because he was too strongโ€”lest he become proud. Godโ€™s message to him? โ€œMy grace is sufficient for you.โ€

So donโ€™t envy the strong, the eloquent, the flawless. God may have allowed your weakness to keep you close to His strength. By all means, improve, grow, develop your giftsโ€”but above all, grow in grace.

Because one day, heaven will say of you what it said of Moses: โ€œMighty in word and deed.โ€
Even if right now, you still feel like youโ€™ve got faltering lips.

I declare that my weakness does not disqualify meโ€”it positions me for Godโ€™s power. โ€œGod chose the weak things of the world to shame the strongโ€ (1 Corinthians 1:27). What I lack, He supplies; where I am limited, He is limitless.

I will not despise my frailty or hide my need, for the Lord declares, โ€œMy grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weaknessโ€ (2 Corinthians 12:9). In my surrender, His strength is revealed. Today, I stand confidentโ€”not in myself, but in the power of Christ within me. When I am weak, then I am strong (2 Corinthians 12:10).
