Clearing The Room For A Miracle

Clearing The Room For A Miracle

โ€œAfter He put them all out, He took the childโ€™s father and mother and the disciples who were with Him, and went in where the child was.โ€
โ€” Mark 5:40 NIVUK

Thereโ€™s a fascinating pattern in the ministry of Jesus โ€” before some of His greatest miracles, He cleared the room.

When He came to Jairusโ€™ house to raise the little girl from the dead, the place was full of noise, tears, and laughter โ€” not laughter of faith, but of unbelief. โ€œThe child is not dead but asleep,โ€ Jesus said, and they mocked Him. So He put them all outside. Only Peter, James, John, and the girlโ€™s parents were allowed to stay. And in that atmosphere โ€” cleared of doubt, filled with faith โ€” the miracle broke forth.

In another moment, Jesus healed a blind man at Bethsaida. He led him out of the village before healing him. Bethsaida was one of the towns Jesus later rebuked for its unbelief. Even the Son of God would not perform a miracle in a climate thick with cynicism. Sometimes the miracle requires a change of atmosphere before it can be released.

Faith has an atmosphere. Miracles often flourish in the soil of agreement, worship, and expectancy โ€” and wilt in the fog of unbelief. Thatโ€™s why Jesus sometimes withdrew from the crowds, or sent them away, or simply changed the setting. He wasnโ€™t just avoiding distraction; He was establishing alignment.

The same pattern appears again in Acts 9, when Peter raises Tabitha (Dorcas) from the dead. Surrounded by mourners showing him her garments, Peter put them all out of the room. Then he knelt down and prayed. Like Jesus before him, he turned toward the body and said, โ€œTabitha, get up.โ€ She opened her eyes and sat up.

Peter had walked with Jesus. He had seen Him clear the room before raising Jairusโ€™ daughter. Now, filled with the same Spirit, Peter followed the same pattern โ€” not copying a formula, but understanding a principle: sometimes you must remove the noise before you can release the life.

There are moments when God calls us to โ€œclear the roomโ€ in our own lives. It might not be people, but distractions, negativity, or internal doubt. The Spirit whispers, โ€œGet them out.โ€ Make room for faith. Create space for the presence of God.

If Jesus needed to manage the atmosphere around His miracles, how much more should we? Faith does not thrive in chaos, cynicism, or complaint. It flourishes in surrender, prayer, and peace.

When the room is cleared โ€” when our hearts are uncluttered and faith fills the air โ€” resurrection power begins to flow again.

Today, I consecrate my thoughts, my words, and my surroundings to the Lord. I will guard the atmosphere of my life with wisdom and faith. I choose to remove unbelief, distraction, and fear, and to make room for the presence of God. โ€œAbove all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from itโ€ (Proverbs 4:23).

I declare that I will create space for faith to rise. I fix my eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of my faith (Hebrews 12:2), and I refuse every voice that weakens trust in Godโ€™s power. I believe that where faith is welcomed, Godโ€™s power is released. I declare that my life is not crowded with doubt but filled with expectancy. โ€œEverything is possible for one who believesโ€ (Mark 9:23).
